  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

17-50mm RED Pro Zoom...

However, please, is it not possible, to have standard common sizes for the outer diameter (if I'm not mistaken an MB20 can take lenses up to 142), and 138mm filters are the common standard used everywhere...

Second that.
This lens should definitely be compatible to an MB20!

This lens will fit Arri cameras. It has a shorter flange depth than the RPPs.
Wait, huh? Shouldn't the FFD be 52mm if they are PL mount? I haven't used the RPP's yet but have used almost every other PL mount lens out there. Are they not 52mm? If this is not a typo, then I think this is a problem that should be addressed.

... 11" from focal plane and Marked 1 foot on the lens.
This is also an issue for a professional lens, IMHO. 11" focus from the focal plane should be marked as 11" on the lens, 12" should be 1'. A lot of 1st AC's will have a problem with this, just FYI. I guess if the rationale is that at 50mm f/2.8, 1" is within margin of error of DoF, then ok. But I really think you should fix this anyway on general principle.

Satsuki the actual Flange to Sensor distance remains 52mm, but the actual barrel behind the flange extends longer into the mount.

11" is minimal distance but it is not marked. 12" is the first mark on the lens, which is 12".

Any idea if this covers 5K?

Do the Older RES 17-50 cover the 5K....

Pleace tell me yes

That would be 18-50... the older one isn´t 17mm but 18mm at it´s widest.
(The 18-50mm is one of my workhorses, I am quite sure it will not cover 5k full sensor area, also curious...)

Jim, or Jarred, I’m curious too, is the Image Circle of the 17mm to 50 mm Zoom Lens at least 32 mm to comfortably the Full Sensor Area of the S35? Just a question! Thanks.

Is there anyway of getting the distance from the actual blades of the plmount to the back of lens?

Btw, you just have to read Apple rumors sites so often and then you will know well how not to make those mistakes...

But they are not infallible, the rumor sites were tipping launch of a blueray drive in 2008 imacs, two years on still no sign of a Blu-Ray drive in ANY Mac.

Interestingly there aren't many rumors from end users around here about RED product, plenty of second guessing! but hardly any rumors, I'd say that is a sign of the fast development process and REDs way of being far more open about future developments than other manufacturers.

Hey quick question about lens coverage, if the image circle is round, how come a lens will only cover the horizontal dimensions of a sensor ie 5K 2:1. How come it won't cover the vertical portion as well ie 16:9? Or even 2:2? If the image projected is a complete circle and it covers the width it should also cover the height as well right? Maybe I'm retarded.

2:1 and 16:9 are the same width. Assume that 2:1 just fits inside the (acceptable) image circle, then 16:9 being taller will extend outside the image circle in the corners.
