16GB for B16...

Finally RED has conquered the world!
You can already tell RED is on top of the world. Because Jim has threatened to push all the reservation holders out of que if they don't take delivery right away. No more Mr. Nice guy. (When you are on top of the world, attitudes change.)

I really don't think this is a fair assesment, as Jim said, Red One is now production ready and any reservations a reservation holder might have
should be dealt with so those people that are farther back on line can
have there cameras.

There is not another company in the world that I know of that would hold
a place in line for you for as long as Red has.

Would Ferrari make 100 supercars and hold on to them until you make up your mind...no....blink there gone.

Give credit where credit is due. If it was no more Mr. Nice Guy we would all be paying for the build 17 etc updates..

We just have internally certified the only 16GB CF cards fast enough (read and write faster than our 8GB cards) to handle the RED ONE. They are custom developed for RED.

Expect these cards to be available in about 4 weeks. Price will be $550 ea.

Jim
Damn, I'm starting to get really excited now.....these are all inspiring developments Jim and gang!! Just wondering how widespread the availability of the cards will be in four weeks (roughly the same time i eagerly await a fedex truck delivery :whistling:)?

put the card picture in the store already!!! I got a piece of plastic with Red's
name on it!!

ooh I just had a thought.......RED affinity card....big honkin Red logo on my Credit Card!!!

DanWood, you are so fucking wrong.

You should inform yourself before you shoot your mouth off. Who are you and how much do you know of Red history and Jim to make a critical and slanderous character judgment like that?

Since you don't know, I'll let you know from someone who does... I've been waiting over a year, got the email that my camera was ready, and then took up Jim's generous offer and waited a little due to finances. That helped me out a lot.

Jim has bent over backwards for us so much, he probably looks like one of those freaky Cirque Du Soleil contortionist by now. :)

He's not threatening to push people off the que, he IS going to do it because it's fair to both sides.

He was already on top of the world before he started this endeavor. His attitude hasn't changed. He's better then nice, he's cool.

And he's got something that apparently you sorely lack.

Class.

...and we now feel confident that, with the delivery of the SDK, we are in a position to say it is finally finished... well, not actually finished, but certainly production worthy. So it is the time (soon) for those that waited to decide whether they like what they see to finish the deal or step aside so those behind them in line can step up. This isn't hardball, it is just fair. I always say that I try our policies out on myself to see if they seem right... as if I were the customer (I am, actually). This seems more than fair to me.

Jim

You don't need me to say it but I will chime in anyway - it is completely fair and if people don't understand they are just ignorant/uninformed or they just don't get it and probably never will.

Seems fait to me too, Jim. It's not like they are going to loose someting, cause:

1. They get their deposit back in full
2. If in a few months they change their minds, they can always make a new order and by then, with the production slowly leveling with the demand, they wont have to wait to long.

Which Card Reader???

Which Card Reader???

They are THE FASTEST F'N CF cards in the world right now.
Offload speeds will be wicked fast too (ie. offload speeds
for a full 16GB card will take less time than offloading a full
8GB card).

Hi Deanan,

what is your recommended CF Card Reader for such beasts? We currently use various USB CF Card Readers and are not really satisfied with the offloading speed. Maybe we should use the same SATA-2-CF adapter that is build into the camera itself?

But we want something for our notebooks, so please give us some good advice!

Thanks,
Axel

Wow! a lot of new possibilities!

What is the theorical max frame rate in 3K ?

There is a few PCI-express to CF readers out there that are blazingly fast. We all use Lexar or Sandisk Firewire 800 UDMA capable readers at RED. USB, to our tests ( and we are all in the mac world ) is always the slowest option.

Faster framerates??? And I thought 120fps was good enough.

"faster framerates" meaning that the framerate limitations we all have gotten accustomed to when using CF cards instead of the RED DRIVEs will be greatly reduced.

Does that mean 'ONLY' 16 GB card will work with a Red on B16 ?

By the time the 16gb cards land.. Im pretty sure everyone will be on build 16.. you would hafta be nuts (or in the middle of a 2 month long production and dont want to switch mid-swing) not to be.

I agree and like most of us here, I would love to be shooting with B16. I was wondering if I can test B16 Beta with 8GB CF cards.

What are you guys thinking

Of course the 8 GB cards still work! :)

Or am I confused about what you're asking?

The 16 GB CFs are finally coming.

I always thought that it's going to take at leats another half a year or so until a major manufacturer is taking the risk and making 16GB Cfs that fits Red's needs. There is simply only Red wich needs this performance and the market is pretty small...

I'm stunned that Red developes their own CFs. I'm impressed. I've been always an strong advocate of the CF route because it's simple, reliable, adding (almost) no weight and considerably cheap. Here we are.

Keep the good work going!

Hans
