16GB for B16...

They are THE FASTEST F'N CF cards in the world right now.
Offload speeds will be wicked fast too (ie. offload speeds
for a full 16GB card will take less time than offloading a full
8GB card).

Actually, about 9x times cheaper. The flash drive is $4500.

But seeing as how the CF is 16GB for $550, this means we need four for $2,200 to match the Flash drive at 64GB for $4500 - the per GB comparison is about 2.046:1 in favour of the CF option.

The uninterrupted record time is the only thing to throw the Flash drive into favour.

I see you amended your post while I was off creating this one- I guess you noticed the math as well.

In that case I'll be using them on my 1Ds III as well, and say good buy to all my 8GB CF from RED and Sandisk Extreme IV.

ciao

Finally RED has conquered the world!

With Build 16 and 16GB flash card, RED is out of Beta and ready for prime time. RED has already put SONY, Panasonic, D20, Dalsa, SI etc. out of business. You can already tell RED is on top of the world. Because Jim has threatened to push all the reservation holders out of que if they don't take delivery right away. No more Mr. Nice guy. (When you are on top of the world, attitudes change.)

A friend of mine recently asked a question: which camera should he get for his small DP business? After considering all the alternatives, we came to the conclusion: "You cannot beat RED in quality or in performance or in pricing."
Sony EX3 with 35 mm adaptor came in a distant second.
None of the Panasonic/ Canon measured up. Heck, for 17K, how can you go wrong? With cheap lenses and now 16GB flash cards, RED is a complete system. CMOS chip motion artifacts and Post production vows are just minor thorns in the back.

Will the card be fast enough to deliver the higher frame rates/better RedCode quality than is currently available with CF compared to reddrives?

Good to see that CF is finally starting to push out the faster cards.

Yes, higher framerates at both RC28 and RC36 compared to the 8GB cards. We don't have final numbers yet.

Ah, the long awaited 16GB c/f. A great addition to reds ergonomics!

I agree, could be less expensive, but hey, $550 for a "rechargable" 10min roll was sci-fi 2 years ago :)

Will they allow higher `framerates than the current 8GB c/fs?

with all due respect, jim has been on top of the world for many many years and still treats everyone with the utmost respect. just one mans observation.

I hope that is not the impression I'm giving. If so, I need to do something different. I love being in the trenches... not on the top.

We allowed customers to wait for delivery because we had so many things in development that we couldn't consider the RED ONE a production camera. I think most will agree that we have more than delivered on our promises (all things considered) and we now feel confident that, with the delivery of the SDK, we are in a position to say it is finally finished... well, not actually finished, but certainly production worthy. So it is the time (soon) for those that waited to decide whether they like what they see to finish the deal or step aside so those behind them in line can step up. This isn't hardball, it is just fair. I always say that I try our policies out on myself to see if they seem right... as if I were the customer (I am, actually). This seems more than fair to me.

16GB is a perfect size. like a 1000-foot mag. i love it. gives production a lot of shoot time (you need more....go with the drive), and allows for periodic backups to be made throughout the day, where problems with shots can be spotted in time....16GB is perfect....for now.

Faster framerates??? And I thought 120fps was good enough.
Frame rates on CF cards are more limited than on Red drives.
I think you can't do more than 113 fps on CF cards.
So with these new cards, you'll probably be able to reach the 120 fps limit, and shoot 4K 16/9 on RC36 (currently limited to RC28 at that resolution).
The sensor can't do more than 120 fps in 2K, I don't think this will change anytime soon..
