16gb card only records 7 min when should be more?

Hi,

Shooting at 4k, 24fps, redcode 36 and only getting 7 minutes roll time before camera cuts off and card is at roughly 15.3 gbs. Shouldn't I be getting around 12? im mostly claiming I should get 12 minutes from the red cinephotography tools data rate calculator.

Nope. 7-8 mins per 16GB at RC36… just haggard. It's basically two takes with rolling, etc.

Red is looking into a 256GB CF card from Sandisk. No guarantees it will be added to firmware but it would provide just under two hours of record time on a Red One at 4K 16:9 RC36. That would be impressive for a piece of media in such a small footprint.

I think they will because Red tries to keep their cameras working - with the absence of other media solutions for Red One/MX this would be a great solution to allow third party media to work.

PLEASE....RED....DO THIS... for the love of all things digital!



I mean a card like this would cause a lot less wear and tear on the pins, it would be perfect for some of us who ran into some hard
times (older parents having major medical issues, family members losing house moving in with parents, me leaving LA to take
care of them and having to put finances and career on hold).

This would be very helpful.
