  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

we have discovered that if you need 720 offline material in fcp you can crank red footage using 2 mac pro with 8 cores, hooked up through qmaster to export 720 prores in realtime.

Qmaster the two computers into one cluster.
Drag and drop the H proxies into compressor and let it run.

If you don't mind using the M proxies I can only imagine how fast that would be.

1080 takes about 2 and 1/2 times.

Then xml/crimson/redcine/DPX and conform...

You can bake in Color Settings and make the files look a little better if you use Red Rushes, set up a script then submit it to Qmaster

We set it up as:
Mac A - hooked up to a RAID and hosts the r3d/proxies and is set up as "services only" in qmaster
Mac B - is hooked up to Mac A via ethernet and is set up as "services and controller" in qmaster.

Open Qmasteradmin on Mac B and set up your cluster.

Run compressor on Mac B and mount the RAID storage on Mac B via ethernet.

Then drag and drop the proxies from the RAID to compressor, add settings and then send it off to the cluster. We write the pro res files to Mac A drives.

In compressor preferences, it should "never copy to cluster" and segmenting should be on.

If you can't write script and only need offline color - it's quick and dirty for real time processing.

How can I submit RedRushes script to Qmaster? I would love to be able to do this on my 4 Macs.

I render with 3x MacPros (one 8core, two 4 core) and 1x G5... it is like 2/3 of realtime for HD720.

Thanks!

One thing you have to watch out on the Q-master is that, when you mix the Macs with different performances, then it leads to waiting at the end for the slow one to finish its part. I would recommend using equal performance machines unless someone figured out better settings.
