  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello,dear friend

The target of our testings

Transcoding the 5K EPIC R3D (1/1 debayer) to the ProRes 422--"150fps"

The soultions:

2013 New mac pro
magma 3T
3 x Nvidia Titian card
the Areca 8050 T2.

I'm not sure we could be up 150,i think the 50fps is the max.is there some technical mistakes in our solution or some good ideas?

thank you so much

are you running bootcamp? osx cannot run GPUs externally...

our OS is 10.9.2, We used the magma and the cubix

we want to found a device that it could support the 3x Nvidia Titian cards and "thunderbolt port ",but we did not found it.
magma had a product that it could support 9 x Nvidia k40 cards, too cool.it is the GEN3 PCI X16 too.maybe the Linux version of the davinci could support!!!

our testings:
The new MAC pro OS 10.9.2,Late 2013

The read/write :500MB/500MB

No additional Nvidia card

1:1 debater into the Davinci 11——EPIC 5K (6:1) to HD ProRes422:about 20fps(RAW and dailies in the same storage)

My question:

if we add one RED ROCKET -X and three Nvidia Titian black graphics card , could it be up to the 150fps by the Davinci Mac version
thank you so much

sincerely

Andy - OSX does not support external GPU's with Thunderbolt. You must use Bootcamp. Also, you will find limited multi-GPU support across certain software creating a point of diminishing returns on your Titan's. The easiest method currently for fast GPU based transcoding on OSX is the Rocket-X.

Hello,dear Jason

Thank you so much for your suggestions

1.We couldn't download the GTX Titan Z driver from the Nvidia,But Davinci manual wrote that they test GTX Titan Z in OSX 10.9.4.

2.if we connect the magma and cubic, does it work better?

How about a PC? Scratch has downloads to try the software for a limited trial period (probably for a limited time). You can render pro res on a PC with it. I added a GTX780 to my mac Pro and that was a nice bump in performance. So much so I am now shopping for a Cubix expander.

Hello,dear friend

Adding/Not to add 3 Nvidia Titan card is really bothering me so much!

In final,i found that one most important element is how many camera would be used!!!this is important

1.The Davinci 11 into the 2013 New mac pro could be realtime to transcode 5k R3D(1/4 Debayer) to the HD prores 422.the newest would be more and more powerful。this is enought

2.3x Nvidia titan+cubix=how many 2013 New mac pro?i assume that the number is “2”,you would have 3 transcoding workstations。at the same time,3 R3D files are transcoding!!!

3.The efficiency of parallel transcoding is the best。

4.Adding 3 Nvidia Titan card doesnot change anythings

You can't use the Cubix with a New Mac Pro if you're running Mac OSX. Period.

could cubix+magma 3T (TB2) achieve this???
