I had gone on a trip last May to Iceland, and received my Epic-W upgrade the morning I flew out, as well as my Schneider Xenon FF Primes (35,50,75) a few weeks prior.
It was a brand new kit I was very excited to use, and a personal project was a perfect fit to break the camera in.

Only other lens I used was the Canon 300mm 2.8L IS.

Cut in Premiere, graded in Resolve.

Here is a 'recent work' of the trip on my website as well: http://www.coryjohnn.com/iceland/

Let me know your thoughts!

Hey Cory, slick images, so crisp! What bag did yo carry all this in if you don't mind me asking? How much power, and chargers? I use a similar kit for my personal travel work, also an epic w and a 1dx mk ii. Lenses are cn-e 18-80mm f4, and 100-400 f5.6 for the main lenses. And 24 f1.4, 50mm f1.2 canon for primes. It's just a pain to carry it all with red bricks, a satchler setup, and lmb 15 with at least 5 filters. Did you even bring any sticks?

Lovely images on your site as well.

Thanks a lot!!

To carry a majority of this, I somehow crammed most of it into the LowePro 600 Trekker:

I also had a smaller pelican for carry on to bring my cameras with me (Epic-W, 1DX).

Here is a rough list of gear:

Epic-W
1DX
Misfit MB + 5 Schneider Filters
LeeFilters(8) + accessories
Schneider Xenon Primes (35,50,75)
Canon 300mm F2.8 L
Canon 45mm Tilt Shift
Canon 16-35mm 2.8
Canon 2x extender
Miller Carbon Monopod
Gitzo tripod (which carefully doubled as a tripod for the Epic when I absolutely needed it)
4 x 99Wh slim batteries
AB double charger (travel size)
15" ASUS ROG laptop
Rode Stereo VideoMic X

I am headed to Japan in 6 weeks, and plan on bringing my Epic-W kit + Fuji X100F instead of 1DX.
I am going to swap monitors with a friend (7" for 4.7"), and bring Canon L Glass + Screw on ND's.
Also going to eliminate the base expander as well, and take only 75Wh Core batteries.

Hopefully this will keep the kit very very small for travel.

@John

Really love that big time... VERY exciting footage.

Makes me want to go to ICE LAND.

The first waterfall shots were amazing against those dark polygonal cross sectioned columns of rock...

The Puffin close ups were amazing and love the abandoned twin engine plane.

LOVE the Icelandic ponies ... So cute... (which reminds me need to bug-out and buy food for me, shavings for the horses!)

Thanks so much for sharing very inspirational but also GENUINELY visually very engaging!

Japan sounds like an amazing trip (Good Luck!).

Of course I also think that might be amazing in 3d/holo :-) (yeh yeh)... BUT very Beautiful stuff indeed.

Looks great, Cory! Iceland is on my bucket list, for sure.

Awesome stuff Cory. I have the Xenons too and feel they are very underrated.

I really think some of the medium format Schneider lenses are beyond fantastic... Always wanted to try the Xenons too... Phil H did some interesting things with them on his tests but still want to give them a go and see what I can make of them. Seem good for stuff we want to do.

I got the Xenons 4 years ago and use them on every corporate gig. They are a great bargain especially being full frame. This was my first test https://vimeo.com/91956416

Love this! Great images, color, etc..

The Xenons have been some of my most used sets of lenses for a while now. Really like them.

Cory,

Where was the canyon area in/around the 2:29 mark?

Thanks everyone!

I am really enjoying them as of right now, and have just picked up the 25mm.
I feel that my core 4 lenses (25,35,50,75) is going to serve me well once I land a few more larger jobs to justify filling out the set, but I will be sure to get there. They are very sharp, and paired with the Epic-W everything seems very clean.

Ryan,

The Canyon is named Fjaðrárgljúfur, and is located on the South East side of the country. It's more than 100 metres deep at some spots, and 2km long.

It was a pretty awesome sight to see.

Thanks for the info. Looks absolutely beautiful, mate!

Thanks Justen!

It was such an interesting trip because it was me playing around on an entirely new setup, with no limitations and expectations from a client.
I was absolutely blown away when I brought the footage back home and into my suite. The amount I could push and pull these files compared to my MX was insane.

I was afraid to push past 800iso on the MX, and that was a no brainer with the EpicW.

Love this camera :D
