Hello,
As RED Raven will record 4K up to 120fps but 13:1 compression might be too much, Can anyone having a EPIC or EPIC Dragon or Scarlet Dragon, post any sample footage of 4K at those or similar ratios, framerate as close as possible as for 4K60P at 7:1 and 4K120P at 13.1 but if not, at least 4KnP 7.1 and 13.1 (or 14.1).
This will help and be much appreciatted to me (and probably by others) in order to see what quality is delivered with 120fps for 4K.

Please try to use non-supershort-temporal sites like the ones that set expire date at only 1 month or so, cause Im not the only one that found some post with unfortunaletly 404 error, not existant or expired sample footage.
If you can deliver some sample footage from your RED it will be appreciated, just PM so I can provide a longer date download link for users, say 1 year from now, using our FTP server at Cinemartin

I'll try and do this for you next time I get my red in my hands

I started a thread about this already, and some footage was graciously submitted by some forum members, however having more examples would certainly be helpful.

On the Red website there is a tool for seeing datarates and recording times. When selecting Dragon at 4K at 60p and 120p, the average data rate is around 128MB/s. Although the Raven can do 140MB/s, that's the max rate, while the Red utility shows the average rate. Hence why the max appears to be 128MB/s or so.

That being said, 13:1 is when shooting full sensor. For those of us delivering in 1080P at 16:9, the sensor can be lightly cropped to 4K HD mode. According to the datarates listed, that should allow for a marginally cleaner 12:1 at 120fps. Not much better, but it will help. Additionally, 100fps will be around 10:1, 90fps at 9:1, and even 60fps at 6:1 (rather than 7:1 full sensor). Clearly not the same as 120fps, but at least those are more realistic compression ratio options.

There's also the option of dropping to 3.5K or 3K, as shown in some examples in the above linked thread (mainly the youtube resolution and compression comparison example), but from what I gather, higher resolution with high compression appears to trump lower resolution at lower compression. This is because you get to use the full sensor, and any noise is also down sampled, at least when working towards HD deliverables.

100fps at 10:1 is fantastic at 4KHD

I've posted footage multiple times.

The problem Tony is a lot of sites charge for long term hosting based on the size of raw 4K footage. I'm happy to post and upload based on the time available but your best bet is to make sure you jump on it when it goes up. As has been said footage has been posted quite a bit already.

I'll try to upload a clip here in the next day or two to send over to you.

Copy.com offers offers 15GB of free space and works like dropbox.. also MEGA.. Mega i thinks gives 50GBs for free and their downloader is sort of like program inside your browser so it is more robust than just "save file as" even for those who don't have an account there

IMO, there is one note of caution to be had in drawing too many conclusions from this process. While it is true that the new cameras (Raven/Weapon) share the sensor of the Scarlet/Epic Dragons, the "innards" are different. So, I would not expect the footage at any given compression to be necessarily comparable. Dragon compression seems much better than MX was and I am thinking/hoping that Weapon compression might also improve.

I think the only sure way to evaluate Raven/Weapon compression is to look at footage from those cameras.

My two cents.

I will re upload when I am not traveling or working and have the free time.

If you're in a hurry link up with someone locally or rent a Scarlet or Epic dragon locally for a day.

Ok, thank you Jeffrey, please upload a 120fps, This seems, well reasonable, at some point the tyres does not look very clear, but..
Please upload a 4K 120p and confirm compression at 13:1 or 14:1 or 15:1 important.

It may be more apples-to-apples if this is from a Weapon MG w/ the STANDARD OLPF.

The new DSMC2 system is tad cleaner w/ a bit more DR.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but every time someone posts footage to download, I get an "OFFLINE" response from RCX. And it won't play in Red Player. Help?
