  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

$1299 Seiki UHDTV 50" SE50UY04 - Bought it today

Nvidia cards built on the Fermi architecture, like the GTX 460, cannot output 4K over HDMI. The card may have HDMI 1.4 but it's not the 3GHz version which is required for 4K output.

Petri, is the 3GHz version listed as 1.4a? Trying to find out if my EVGA GTX 560 ti card will work.

yeah, not at 30Hz but i got it 3840x2160 16hz not sure if i could get more, I tried 24hz but it wouldn't display.

GTX 560 Ti hails from 2010 and is built on Fermi, so it won't output 4K over HDMI. First Kepler-based cards were released in March 2012.

Got it. Thanks.

EDIT: Not saying you are wrong, but if the HDMI 1.4a is 3GHz, which I've been led to believe by checking some gamer forums, the GTX 560 Ti is 1.4a compliant. I don't know if this is the primary factor, but if it is, then the card should work.

actually, it wasn't bad, there definitely was some stutter in there, but that was mainly when trying to playback inside of RCX. When I exported to ProRes it played back fine. One thing i did find out and its weird, but in full screen in quicktime i had to have the info panel open to get smooth playback, idk really what that changed but it works. I can't wait to get my ultrastudio 4k in a few weeks. I'll upload a video later to show how its working.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Got an email from Seiki today, telling me their US models are not CE certified... but they will launch European models "in the near future".

Nothing for REC 2020 yet. I think the Sony OLED will support it, their guy at NAB was under the impression that 2020 was on the table for that monitor. But it's still a year away from production, maybe more. This is all stuff to look forward to with HDMI 2.0 and other upcoming interfaces. And the pro monitors will support that as well as quad 3G-SDI, possibly dual or quad 6G-SDI. That one is a funky BlackMagic thing at the moment, but it's getting a lot of interest from others -- they're willing to openly license it and it's a simple DDR style take on SDI signaling to double bandwidth. As usual, the paper specifications for new standards precede the hardware.

According to what RED has had to say about the .RED codec and REDRAY -- especially integration directly with the projectors -- their projectors should be able to exceed REC2020. I would expect the REDRAY projector to support 2020 on release or if not I'm positive it will have an upgrade path to allow it. I'm willing to bet some of the delay on the projector goes beyond simply not being ready. I'm betting RED is also waiting for appropriate interfaces to come available. We cant run everything through the REDRAY portion, some of us need other ways to feed it.

i suppose that's whyRED got a few of these sets in , it's good to see they're testing out for verification and possible recommendation. 4k definitely deserves 10bit though

But some people online are claiming that DVI to HDMI 1.4a can - but I don't have a cable to verify this, maybe somebody can. I think you are correct and the online claims are wrong as under custom resolution settings, there was nothing above 2560 with the GTX 460 but was with the GTX 660. But people are claiming the hardware does in fact support it but drivers block it.

Posted the above as an edit before realizing the original post was already buried.

NEVER MIND: I have the Fermi instead of the Ti version. And I can't find any proof the Fermi is 1.4a.

Nothing to do with drivers: GTX 460 simply lacks the necessary hardware for 4K output.

No, it's not that simple. My old MSI Hawk N460GTX can output 4K to this panel just fine. I plugged it in using DVI to HDMI adapter.
The GTX 460 works the same way as my new GTX 670, I can swap them while keeping the same Nvidia driver (314.22).

Sounds like different implementations of the same core GPU may have different capabilities depending on the vendor that built out the PCIe card and I'm guessing there's a minimum RAM requirement for some resolutions/refresh rates

Cheers - #19

Well I think linux is maybe hard-coded sending DVI signals over HDMI? I noticed the TV would say DVI-1 when running in linux. Also i could only get 3840x2160@17 Hz. As soon as I went over 165 Mhz pixel clock I got nothing... (even 165.01)

This was with my macbook retina under linux. On my desktop it was the same story as soon as its over 165 nothing =(

So things are not looking good. Under windows the macbook pro retina was able to do 31 Hz with custom timings. The default timings for 30Hz did not work at all (24Hz did though) I did 31Hz with CVT reduced timings. Here is a picture:

So its looking like nvidia drivers on linux are totally broken.. my worse fear as I do not use windows at all. I don't have windows on my desktop to test if it works in windows on the gtx 470 and since my laptop is a mobile card I guess I will go grab a gtx 6XX series and test some more later to night but I don't have high hopes.

I tested (via my DP -> HDMI adapters) 3840x2160@24Hz via two 1920x2160 outputs each at 24 Hz but the bad news is it did not work =( HDMI1/2 just had 1920x2160 (super wide stretched) output on each source. Didn't have super high hopes for this so no big surprise...

And the DP-> HDMI adapters were no go as well for anything > 165 Mhz. Windows acts super weird while using them locks up gets corruption on the laptops display and other stuff (not sure WTF) but they worked ok in linux for 165Mhz.

DeckLink 4K Extreme ...

DeckLink 4K Extreme ...

mmhhmm .... have been trying DaVinci Resolve running a BMD DeckLink 4K Extreme card with a 3840x2160 ProRes QuickTime out through HDMI and can NOT get any kind of UHD signal to display on the SEIKI ... can get a crappy 1920x1080 downscaled version to play but no UHD TV ... tried all the different UHD Resolve settings ... all I get when I switch from 1080p to 2160p is a blue screen and the cryptic message - 'Not Support'

Also tried playing the same 4K QuickTime out of FCP X but no still no joy.

Anyone had any luck with the 4K DeckLink Extreme card?

Neil

On the low end, I tested Radeon HD 7770, it picks up 4K right away and it seems to have less issues with blanking than Nvidia cards.

But the real gem, to my surprise, was... Radeon HD 5450 with 512MB RAM. The computer just booted straight into 3840x2160@30p on generic Windows driver. This is a $30 card ... in case you were wondering what kind of processing power and prowess is needed to drive such mighty resolution (decoding 4K video is a whole different story, of course).

More updates and some quirks:

>I've identified the panel in the unlock menu: http://www.panelook.com/V500DK1-LS1_Innolux_50_LCM_overview_17279.html

>I can't figure out how to get the tint control active - manual makes it seems like it's only active in VGA input :(

>Did WOW calibration with no tint, results are not bad, better than Spyder

BIG NEWS!!!!

Factory memory with a bunch of settings as well as software upgrade is available via USB. And it's states TV runs Linux, so panel should be hackable by those with skillz.

EDIT PS: Default unlock is menu + 0000

THE MOTHERLOAD

THE MOTHERLOAD

Okay, found a factory service controls with advanced color controls, by input:

Press Menu, then 0000 (four zeros)

Go to "others"

Under Color Temp you can completely program the Gain and Offset for RGB for each of the color temp presets with a save to EEPROM option.

A ton of settings beyond color above that related to TV function - much of stuff I have no idea what it is but likely related to timings and inputs as well as alternate display settings. Maybe some issues can be solved there.

Also, prior to this, I had an issue that waking from extended power save the monitor barfed on 4K but would do 1080p. Solved by unpluggin for few minutes.
