Anyone attending in person? With a 'nilla latte in hand, I'm going to walk from Eagle Rock(where I live), over Suicide Bridge... a couple of Canons(old ones that only shoot stills) in my backpack. Hope to get up early enough to photograph the full moon still in the sky. Last full moon at new year was 1990! Just drove through 'Dena tonight and it is a crazy sight to see thousands of roadside squatter/campers... pit fires, heatlamps, formal dining tables, plastic chairs, kids, grandparents.. I'm going to enjoy seeing their shabby faces tomorrow early!!!

Also.. in honor of the banter on this thread aka Format-pa-looza! I'm going to challenge myself to shoot well composed images for all those aspect ratios. ~We'll see what happens!

EDIT: Here are some snaps from the day...
It was my first time to see it in person, so I was also trying to watch without a camera in front of my face the whole time. :) Some of the pics I was on a precarious ledge about 4ft from the ground, hanging on to a wobbly chain-link fence with one hand, DSLR camera (autofocus and exposure) in the other. Used the same image with different crops for those very close in aspect ratios. Not high art, but a great tech exercise! (did I get these right? tried to choose pics suited for the ratios..)

Sarah how are you, I plan on going out to Pasadena tonight and possibly shoot some floats with a 7D just for fun more than anything. If i can get to any floats I just dont know if thats possible yet.

Maybe ill run into you out there tonight
happy new years to you and yours.

Hey BigLu! Have fun! Enjoy the moon too. It is beautiful tonight. I'm hunkering in already, in anticipation of of an early start, loooong walk (2mi just to get there!!) and morning.

7D?? You stinka! We outta hook up sometime in Jan. when I get/borrow one and shoot some 3D stuff..? I need to do a demo for a potential freelance client. Maybe we'll need some Red and DIT action later too. :)

It's a "Blue Moon", too: second full moon of the month. I hope it doesn't leave you "standing alone". ( :

I almost walked (I live in Eagle Rock too). But I decided to drive at the last minute -- which only led to my bailing on the whole event. Post some pix for us.

Yay! So now I can really say, "I get out to the Rose Parade once in a Blue Moon" :D ~My first time to see the parade in person! Couldn't unearth any of my friends to go.. who are prolly STILL IN BED 1130am! I was able to park darn close.. made for only .5mi? to the route, but then you have to walk around all the bleacher-areas to be able to stand and watch. VERY WORTH IT... do it at least once in your life. Need to pile through 2gb of snapolas, will post something at least to prove I was there!

fun times... I was there. My brother's school Cal Poly won the Bob Hope Humor award, and the KTLA Viewer's Choice award.

Mike

@Mike.. Awesome! Did you know Weird Al Yankovic was an architecture student at Cal Poly "back in the day".. and recorded his first hit "My Bologna" in the restrooms for KCPR?

@Jeff.. Thanks! :)

@ Taylor.. I made a post in the "Shot On Red" area with your vid. Beautiful work!
