  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

120 fps scarlet any word?

Dragon is great, but still 120fps@1K was promised at launch without Dragon and is still present in official camera specs.

At least this bit should be made functional with a current sensor.

there still should be a firmware upgrade for 120 @ 1k on scarlet. i'm sure they want to release it as much as we want it... but you don't have to wait for dragon. it's a completely different thing.

dragon will not make your scarlet 120 @ 5k... it's just the sensor that's changing. if you need more, you need epic.

scarlet will need extra processing work as well, so it may be more than $6k

120@4k is more the target for Scarlet I think or rather, I hope. Dragon on Scarlet, it has been said, DOES require additional processing to work at all. It is not just the sensor that will be changed and that is why it WILL cost more than $6k. That is what I have come to understand.

Is 120 FPS @1k even useful?

Come on guys! Read ;)

This 120fps@5K for EPIC !!!
No scarlet specs have been announced yet!

Paul, not entirely true. The dragon comes with a different board which is needed to support 6K @ 80something fps and 120fps @ 5K.
Scarlet will also get new boards. But how much that will affect the fps is not clear yet. It could (!) be that the dragon scarlet will become a RED ONE killer in terms of fps. Though I doubt it.

Guestimating here, but...

I guess Scarlet owners will get 2 options (as the boards will have to be changed anyway)

1. Scarlet to Scarlet Dragon - with pretty similar limitations as todays Scarlet has
2. Scarlet to Epic Dragon - slightly cheaper than buying a new Epic, but still quite fun

Guessing over...

High fps is the next big thing everyone will b expecting with the fs700 doing 240fps in 1080. Yes yes I know it's compressed but I guarantee every scarlet owner would love even a compressed option.

But guys... Really... How much highspeed do you need or shoot?

I am working on some pretty big productions, and honestly, if the scarlet could do 25 fps hdrx @4khd, we wouldn't have needed the Epics. And seriously, these are quite large, allthough they are local.

I'll take a good signal over highspeed any day.

Well it just depends on what u shoot really, I could use it alot personally, but I can use 5k hdrx too. It really would make the scarleteers happy though. I bet red will surprise em... You gotta love how competitive Jim is... : )

I must make my "slap someone's face video" Its a perfect excuse to slap you friend in the face

I don't expect any 5k on Scarlet. How about HDRX at a full 4k 24 or 25 FPS? When/if I go to Dragon it would likely be for fidelity, sensitivity/DR and HDRX in that order of priority. High frame rates aren't even a driving factor for me. It would be nice, but I'm not much into it. I can rent Epic for that. ;-)
