I have changed the format to 2k 2:1 and changed the setting to 120fps but its still only showing 24 fps when I start recording. I got to the frame rate section and it only allowed me to change it up to only 60 fps. Does anyone know the correct order to shoot 120 fps? Is it a shutter speed issue or should I maybe reset all the settings and retry? I looked at the manual and my firmware is updated to no avail. I am using red drives also. Thank you cool community.

btw. I am having a hard time understanding the different btween redcode 3 color grain and the red42,36, and 28. can anyone explain the difference between both or should I just stay in raw to get my 13 stops of DR?

The REDCODE compression levels (28, 36, and 42) have nothing to do with recording RAW or not. The camera ONLY records RAW images.

Just be sure to protect your highlights by exposing to the right.

Okay so I ended up getting the 120 fps to show up instead of only the 100fps. It would not allow me to attempt to shoot it on redcode 42 so I went down to 36 or 28 and that was acceptable. But now, when I press records it say incompatible DIG_MAG. But I am using a 640gb hard drive, should I format the drive? I already formatted the camera to factory settings.

Update...

ok so I figured out it would only work on 2:1 RAW 2K at Redcode 28. After formatting my card, it recorded with no issues. I am wondering though. Once you playback what you just recorded, how do you get out to the normal video mode? I tried exit, and undo but neither one of them got me back. Thank you all for the suggestions and further understanding. I sure wish there was a way to make it even slower outside of a plugin. You would think by now someone figured out how to tweek this 9 year old camera. None the less, I love it. Thanks again all.

Highly recommend the manual. I know no one likes to hear that but it's worth the read. Goes over recording data rates, how to get in and out of high speed mode, appropriate shutter modes, etc. And a whole lot more.

As for making it slower, the internal processing components can only handle certain frame rates at certain resolutions at certain data rates. And then there is the issue of media speed. The SSDs can handle higher speeds than spinning drives. There are best practices for shooting properly for post speed manipulation. All about getting the math right.

As for your playback mode, was this a one time problem or does it do this consistently?

Hey Steve,

Yeah it was a one time problem. As far as the play back, now I press exit and there is a 3 second delay, but it works so thanks for the advice. I have just written all the short cuts down and still trying to figure our shutter angle I believe. But outside of that, honestly, every time I look at my footage, I fall in love. It is a love hate relationship. I have seen the footage out of the ursa mini 4.6, ursa, and fs700, fs5, fs7 and in my personal opinion I haven not found a rival in the color science with the resolution(though it is a personal preference, but I tend to lend myself to warmer images). The only thing that has great color but lack the frame rates and lack of 4k is the canon line c100, and even though the 300,500 may have 4k their frame rates are sad for a camera with that type of price point. I would say at the red one mx price point, the only thing I would consider getting is a kinemini 4k because the color is beautiful as well and the frame rates are the same. The real benefit is the weight and it seems like I cant get the frame rates to go any faster without becoming more broke in upgrading to the epic and even then the image is different. But I will say, I am working on my degree project for college and when I finish my Short film, I will be glad to try to post it on here.
