1080p footage in a 4K workflow?

I'm working on a ~1hr documentary filmed in 5K and being edited in 4K/UHD for eventual 3840x2160 @ 25fps output. I have a few 1080p clips in 24fps (DSLR) and 30fps (iPhone 5) that I need to incorporate. When I view this footage on a 4K TV using the display's built-in scaler, it's looks pretty good...but when I look at it in my Premiere Pro CS6 timeline, it's just doing standard scaling and it obviously doesn't look as great. What tool/step do I need to add to my workflow to pre-scale my 1080p footage to get the best results when it's scaled to 2160p? Ideally I need a software scaling tool that produces results similar to what Sony's built-in hardware achieves when fed a 1080p signal.

If using CUDA, the built in scaling will be lanczos on render...which is just about as good as you can get.

If is really annoying you, you could pre scale the dslr footage and reimport it.

You could also try ctrl-f12 'force high quality playback'

Haven't tried that yet, so not sure of its exact function

Thanks Mike, unfortunately I'm using a Mac...but I'll try an find an equivalent tool for Super Resolution scaling.

Both Photoshop and Adobe After Effects can perform excellent interpolations, which will probably include a bit of sharpening. You can easily relink it to Adobe Premiere Pro.

If you watch it properly at 4k those shots will give you a break into a docu feel, just cut it and judge for yourself, so much more needs to be taken into account, and who knows what you need to evoke
