$100K REWARD...

I came about this thread looking for info on the epic.

Really interested in that.

That said, I believe OP has seen "ransom" once too many and may perhaps be romanticized by the beauty of crime. However, from where I come, If ANYONE puts a $100k reward on anyone's head - he is turning himself into a target.

No need being a hero over a piece of great electronic. Especially since the electronic itself aint the joker here whereas the idea behind the camera is. Build more cameras and get past this incident. Which in the mind of a conspirator COULD/SHOULD be read as a VIRAL campaign for a new product

Really... before you go rambling on your first post, you should probably get a better sense for the context of your remarks. Because, in the real world of this situation, your comments make pretty much no sense at all. Do you know anything about RED? Do you know who Jim Jannard is? Do you know the circumstances of Epic #00006? :attention9ha:

What an odd thing to say.

hehe!!

Go back to sleep.

Does the software have a sunset feature: one that shuts the software down and keeps it shutdown after say one or two months, until a new code is entered. That code being held by RED. Kind of a software renewal license, but one that is free to all registered legal owners (and is specific to your camera). That would seem to go a long way towards creating a disincentive to steal.

While I may agree (to an extent) with the bold, because, consequently, thing became viral and that may help the wider cause if you will, I don't have a clue what on earth are you trying to say with everything else. It is perfectly legitimate for an owner of a company to offer an award in this matter. We are talking about precious development and an unique product.
This ain't some street -tribal exchange.

JC's post kinda sounds like a threat:

Who talks like this? for a first post on RED. Smells fishy to me...

That would mean that you MUST register to use the camera and continually check in every month or two in order to keep using it. A software kill-switch isn't a bad idea, but you can't burden legitimate users for it.

Maybe the kill-switch can detect and brick cameras with serial numbers marked as stolen when they're updated or connected to an internet connected computer? But then instead of recovery of stolen goods, what you'd likely get are cameras being thrown away or dismantled for parts after it's been bricked. Maybe there could be a "phone home" function hidden away somewhere. GPS units aren't all that expensive nowadays, but probably not all that practical... just thinking out loud. I know this doesn't help Mark right now.

Not being in on the Epic M program, this would be o.k. with me. Maybe those who are waiting for an Epic M would see it different.

(Not so) Famous last words...
sigh... moving on,

Jim, anything we can do other than just spread the word to our contacts in the local film industry?
I feel so useless in all this.
But I bet anyone of the members of this community would put in much of their own money if it helped bring down whoever did this.
Is there a pool we can add more to the reward?

EDIT: and maybe give requests on what to do with the perps :-)

Is it just me or does the post make perfect sense if considered from the perspective of someone who knows something more about the stolen Epic #00006 ? (though I am not making an accusataion). It seems to have possibly been put through some translation software.

The confessional first two sentences claim further interest in the Epic line but move on to ask no questions and talk only about the missing one. He seems quite upset that a reward has been offered which he thinks is melodramatic. Then seems to be a warning to back off searching or someone might get hurt. Next that the overall technology is more important than one missing camera. Finally, an attempt to be philosophical by saying Red should get over it, and the incident is good marketing which will be paid for by future sales.

There is zero concern for the nature of the crime and the victim, so why would someone take this stance over the rest ? It's too odd.

Wow. Perhaps you could make a movie out of this. Your imagination certainly works.

I read Philip Bloom's blog every now and then. That is where I got the information.
I know nothing of the whereabouts of the camera. Nor do I know the thieves.

I know this:

By putting a $100,000 award on the apprehension of the thieves or the camera's safe return you are

A) Applying stress on the thieves
B) Sparking other people to look for above.

Now, in the adventure of gaining a $100k 'like that' those innocent 'vigilantes' might very well put them selves in harm's way and get hurt or even worse.

As of know a camera (yes I know it IS valuable) has been lost. All I am advocating for is that it stays that way and does not end up in someone loosing something he CANT purchase BACK !!!
This 'adventure' aint no H-Wood movie where Will Smith sucker-punches some crook and smokes a cigar afterwards - this is REAL life with REAL thieves where people who aren't trained for such could get hurt for REAL.

I lost a GOOD friend in Madrid in 2004. He chased a thief who had stolen a purse from woman which he didn't even know, down an alley to get it back. All he got was a knife in the chest.
The woman SHOULD have lost her dear belongings but instead my friend LOST his life.

Apologies due. I've deleted my post. Regarding imagination, I think many of us have a fantasy about tracking down Epic 00006 and swinging through the window like Superman to return it where it belongs. Sorry again.

No harm done. Thanks though!

A threat... Come on. I bet you feel threatened too when ordering food at Roy Rogers and the waitress goes "Would there be anything else, Sir ?"

aint nothing fishy about this. Been reading this forum for a long time. Just never felt compelled to write. But when innocent folk could put themselves in harm's way trying to reap an ounce of glory by returning the 'Lost Child' along with the notion of expanding their atm card by a $100 grand then I feel compelled to write.

Call me Defendor, if you please - but that with an O

I think you should stop watching action movies and 'Dog the bounty hunter' rewards are given in many many cases around the world of stolen property and criminal apprehension, this is no different.
