  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

$1000 Reward

Just trying to understand the math here. So, $1000 to produce a 10-hour course, at a lynda-style level of production quality? My guess is it would cost much more than that to produce. How many people would have to buy said course in order to break even, given lynda's $25/month all-access fee for courses?

They said there would be no math on RedUser ; )

Doesn't have to be hosted on Lynda. Could be pay for view or some other online business model. That would be up to the author to consider. Are you a potential author?

:) Not quite, as I'm not a Red owner or user (just a wannabe right now), but I know on some of the small productions I do with SolidWorks training, it takes a lot more man-hours to create a training video of the caliber that's on lynda, and factoring the cost of the expert who would be providing the training. I'm sure many of the real pros here could bang out a production like that in a short amount of time, but my guess is it would still cost more than $1000 to produce. My guess is it hasn't been done yet because most are busy working on more lucrative gigs... however like you said, for the right person this may be a golden opportunity.

Sounds like Dan Kanes offer would be a great option. Perhaps we just need a mini-guerilla team to send down there to shoot his training, then work in post to produce the training material and format.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Things are hard to do and they take time. But that doesn't prevent some from doing.

You know Josh, the thing about Redcine X is, that it's a brand new program that's updated incredibly frequently which means anyone who were to sit down and compose your proposed training video would be sitting down with a program they don't really know, pushing and pulling all the dials and sliders in front of them until they had a handle on how to accomplish the tasks the program was designed to help you complete. They would start the video series a rookie, and end a pro.

Why are you waiting for someone else to go through the process when you could just as easily do it yourself? You're not going to ruin your footage as you can always take it back to square one with duplication, and you're most certainly not going to break your computer. Why are you opposed to just sitting down and figuring it out?

EDIT: to quote you "Things are hard to do and they take time. But that doesn't prevent some from doing."

I would respectfully ask that we focus on the OP and not all the reasons why individuals feel it will not work. If you cannot contribute to the solution then please don't post here.

This Friday is open to the first three people who want training. Ill start with a three person course. That would be $200/each for a 10 hour course.pretty cheap. I'm going to do a free setup guide online too. My charge for something like this will probably only go up too unless people like taking classes 10 at a time or so.

I can start doing full on scarlet/epic workflow and camera workshops. Also, I'm a very nice Guy in person even if I seem like a dick on The Internet sometimes.

Cheers, friends.

An Entrepreneur sees a new market. Awesome! I'm traveling this weekend buddy or I would take you up on that offer. (even if your are an internetdick sometimes). Keep at it since Scarlet users might not be industry technodudes of the R1 days.

Awesome initiative Josh!
Great offer Dan!
Is there anyone on the east coast side who can take up classes? Preferably CT, NY, MA areas.

Mohamed, if you want to get the most out of your Epic M, you need to invest more in your education... REDucation would be HUGE for you. Come in December and I will help you all that I can... I cannot recommend it enough in terms of what you will be exposed to help you make great strides in better understanding your camera system, meeting other REDusers from around the world and meeting teachers who work on some of the biggest gigs on the planet showing you how they work on set. PM me if you have any questions on REDucation... Would love to help. :)

PS-- Been a while since I have been to Cairo and Giza... Can't wait to go back. :)
I really wish I could, I really want to be there. It's really expensive though plus flight and accommodation. I dont know...

I'd buy a Tutorial DVD set in a heartbeat... acquisition and post. ALL software evolves so I'm comfortable starting SOMEwhere with instruction. Once we newbies at least grasp some of the basics, then we can at least keep up with the changes...
Thanks for stepping up Josh

So the basic workflow as I understand it is:
1. Acquisition
2. Copy onto workstation drive
3. Process in CineX for trimming and color grading
4. Export copy as a R3D Trim file with RMD Sidecar to retain RAW file for use in Premiere
5. Export copy as QuickTime for ProRes needs
6. Import into Premiere or FCP

Correct?

Any idea with Alchemy does? Thought it might be like NIK's structure setting but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Dan thanks for taking the time for this tutorial it is fantastic.
