- It’s to small.
Clients who are paying big bucks seem to think big cameras justify their expense. Of course when I tell them that using this camera makes them as smart as Peter Jackson they come around.
2 It’s to easy to use.
Being professional means making your job appear so hard that the amateurs won’t even attempt to do it. This is very hard to do with a Red which is the easiest camera I have ever used.
3 It’s modular.
I have literally woken up at 2am realizing that I could use the handle from my gunner on my camera, come on red I need the sleep
4 It’s to light
At the end of a long day the Director says “one more shot” I’m calling back with “what only one?” A long day carting this camera around is like 1 hour with any other, the rest of the crew are starting to hate me.
5 HDRX
I don’t hate this feature. I hate that I never get to use it, the dynamic range of the camera is just to good.
6 The learning curve.
Not with the camera, but because I love the images it produces so much I want to grade them so I’ve started learning Resolve, which is a perfect marriage with r3ds. Have you seen the size of that manual? (actually its not that hard, and I recommend that everyone using a red take the time to learn it)
7 Other cameras.
I can’t go back, you get a job, they want to shoot ex d cam. You don’t want to do it but you need they money. You shower when you get home, but the stink won’t come off.
8 Jealousy.
My partner is so sick of me telling everyone how much I love my Red that she has dyed her hair red so they think I’m talking about her.
9. Free updates
Just when I tell my clients what my camera does, it does more.
10. DSMC
The stills guy swore at me when he left the set because he wasn't needed.
