  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi All, we have a Very well respected DIT in China right now that is having an issue with two dragons =. the signal is delayed out of the HDSDI by about 10 frames. it is also slightly delayed out to the onboard. he has changed and played with the monitor control tab in display and nothing is helping. anyone have any suggestions, please chime in here...

There has always been a 3-5 frame delay to the onboard.
I thought SDI was the same as the onboard uses HDMI so they are both converted from LVDS and that takes time....
The only difference is that SDI is serialized but it should not make a difference...

Haven't gauged the SDI delay since early Epic-M days.
But it was there. Less to the internal monitors, and something I checked the other day, would suggest that HDMI could be faster (in between SDI and on-board), but THAT result could also be due to the monitors used (monitors can introduce extra latency).

10 sounds like something accumulative is happening.
Up to 6, sounds within expectancy. U need a few frames to trigger the feeling of being out of sync... 10 is a bit beyond that tolerance.

The camera is incapable of generating a 10 frame delay based on internal buffering.

For lowest latency results, the monitor refresh rate should be set to 60 Hz.

Internal monitor I guess?

Having 60HZ on the SDI for all sync'ed scenarios doesn't make a lot of sense.

Running the monitors synchronized with the senor rate will also provide minimal delay.

Also depends what monitors youre using and how they're configured. Flanders monitors have horrible delay due to internal signal processing. Much better at 60hz refresh

i am not the one with the issue, it is a DIT in china. well an american DIT in china. I believe red reached out and perhaps they fixed the issue, i will try and followup and provide any insight, thanks for the suggestions.
