  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

10.8.2 no good with rocket

Thanks Eric. i think I did a Mountain Lion USB before, just have to find it. The frustrating part of this is that I have updated Aperture and other software that was "Retina Optimized" in 10.8.2 and don't know what I'm going to do with it. Also some of those softwares are download purchases. I sense another long hours (or days) of backups as well as reinstalls... :( Sometimes I just can't understand how version upgrades that are apparently minor just completely screw up and break up workflows...

Your apps and everything should be fine. Just the OS will be downgraded. It's not too bad. Just be sure when you do the update to 10.8.1 that it's not the update from automated thing as it will go to 10.8.2 again.

Bob's right- don't wipe and install just install the OS from a USB. Your apps will be intact as well as all your other files, etc. Should be fine and not take too long. Longest part will be downloading the torrent!!!!

Thanks Bob and Eric!

Bob, I should update from 10.8.0 to 10.8.1 from the apple support link you posted on the other thread, right?

Eric, but I have some apps, like Aperture, for example, that "demands" 10.8.2. What will happen to those after the roll back?

Thanks for the help guys, truly appreciated.

You know, the strangest thing is it seems like the Rocket starts decoding and then, it suddenly stops- as if the computer or the communication with the card is cut off... It also happens on Premiere. What is going on? Maybe some sort of internal "firewall", or some sort of bandwith limitation Apple put on 10.8.2?

Yes use the 10.8.1 on the support link. And not sure about the Aperture issue. I would file a ticket with Apple about that as them may be able to let you download the previous version somehow.

It's because it can't handle shots that span over multiple R3Ds (i.e. A001_C001_CJD74_001.R3D, A001_C001_CJD74_002.R3D, A001_C001_CJD74_003.R3D, etc. that are all the same shot and take). So if your shot is just one file it works fine. If the shot is longer and spans 2 or more R3D files then it will have problems when it tries to decode the R3Ds after ..._001.R3D (the first part of the shot). So look at your shots in the file structure, how many R3D's do you see for each shot? Pick one with only a single R3D file and it will work fine. Then pick one with more than one R3D file (at least a ..._003.R3D) and it will start having problems after it decodes the first part. At least that's what was happening with my system.

Where is Red on this issue. Surely they need to update the Rocket drivers? I assume they are working on it but some communication on possible workarounds and delivery times for a new driver??? This is a card that cost me more than my computer.

+ 1 million. It's been a month now. Shouldn't take this long to update drivers.

Just rolled back to 10.8.1. All is back to normal and rocket working flawlessly with Sonnet. Minor hassle was that Aperture indeed stopped working. Everything else is fine. Really hope the next Redcine X update addresses this!
