  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

+1 Monitor Adaptor

Sorry Guys.. D-tap is one of the worst things that ever was somehow put into the camera echo system... we are doing our best to get rid of those.. forever. If you really want a D-tap, it is still on the V-Lock battery plate ( for now ) or you can do a Lemo to D-tap adapter.

And yes CB the +1 is late.. No surprise, it is a broken record. But at least I gave a heads up way back when that the Miezler module with Pro-res recording was taking priority over everything at least :)

Lemo to D-tap adapter sounds fine, Cheers!

Interesting. Will mark this up on the "watch" list :)

Don't mind the +1 being late - you guys always make things better anyway :)

Would be amazing if you tell us that the +1 (or the module adaptor :)) has a ProRes recording integrated too

Heh...heh...heh...

:))

Jarred thanks for the Update but aren't you suppose to be on the beach taking it easy? ...;)

Totally agree. D-tap sucks. Let's agree to get rid of it!

Hm. I really wish you guys would have just prioritized getting the +1 out a long time ago instead of focusing on Meizler because it's such an essential part of the puzzle. Also - it's been working for a long time as far as I know, so I'm not sure why it would be so hard to put into production. Obviously I'm just talking out of my ass, but still... ;-)

Agreed on both points.

What is so bad about d taps is there something I should know! I've been using either d tap splitters or a d tap to Arri 3pin adapter from my battery plates to power my accessories since getting my Red One.

I'll probably just have our electronics guys here in the shop make a hirose to lemo connector. I don't have an investment in D-taps so it's a non-issue.

Thanks for getting this +1 module out. The lack of being able to drive the EVF and LCD at once is vexing, but solvable. Thank you.

I'd love to know too. While I'm sure it's true, "d taps suck", I've been using d taps for a few things myself and haven't had any problems with. Lemo's are a much nicer connector, but from all of the disliking of d taps, I assume it goes beyond a form factor issue. Anyone mind spilling the beans on what d taps are so dreaded?

If I had to guess: D-Taps feel cheap, they disconnect too easily (as opposed to the locking system built into a LEMO connector), and they're too large compared to what they do.

From either manufacturing, R+D, or usability standpoint, that's enough argument to look elsewhere for a solution.

No worries, we still love you guys. Honestly, though, I really don't care when you actually get stuff to market. I have a great system working right now. Everything else you're coming out with is just icing.

Basically, D-tap is okay if given kind treatment, and not too many corners are cut on trying to make a 'cheap' connector 'cheaper'. The main issue is the plastic construction--it doesn't wear well, and worn or poorly implemented connectors can allow for the plug to be inserted backwards. Reversing power +/- is a good way to make expensive paperweights.

For equipment that is used frequently, d-tap connectors are cheaper to start, but at least in my experience, they don't save money in the long term. Especially for something that needs to stand up to multiple insertion cycles per day. They get worn and damaged at a higher rate, and I spend more time and money repairing d-tap than I do on spending money on more rugged connectors up front.

Jarred thanks for the Update, but as you know we need for a long time something cheap to use our old RED LCD 9" ( at the same time as our BomB EVF)

we don't want accessory from other manufacturers for our new EPIC-X

pleace just give us a timeline for the +1 module

He did. Shipping in February 2013. 2.5 months away.

I'm glad RED is releasing this. People have been asking us how to use our TVLogic to LEMO cables with their RED without a PRO I/O. Will definitely be a good accessory.

Hello Jarred (or anyone else that can answer this)

How much power can we anticipate the auxiliary power output providing??? For example, we regularly see an extra on-board monitor, MDR, wireless video and Cinetape on our cameras and need power supply for all of it. Will this auxiliary output provide enough power (ie. as much as we can get from a D-tap splitter plugged into a V-lock baseplate's D-tap port and powered by a RED brick) for our purposes?

I like to know 2 and does the +1 use the sdi or hdmi from the Epic out to work the extra LCD?EVF?
