I will shoot a film in 1.85.
should I do it in 4K redcode 36 or 4.5k redcode 42 ?

thank you

Since 4.5k has a 2.33 aspect ratio it would not be suitable for a 1.85:1 finish. You would need to cut a lot off the sides, losing the benefit of shooting 4.5k.

Yep. If you shoot RED One 4.5K, which is 4480 pixels wide, you have to crop it to 3552 pixels wide to get your 1.85:1 frame. Likewise, shooting 4K 2:1 also requires cropping the frame to 3788 pixels wide.

So, definitely shoot 4K 16:9 as it requires the least amount of cropping and only vertically -- 4096x2214 when cropped to 1.85:1.
