This thread is similar to the Jim Jannard post regarding exposure. While grading in Apple Color what are your first steps in processing the image. For example, 1. Red Tab: Adjust exposure. 2. Red Tab: Adjust contrast. 3. Advanced Tab: Adjust Red, Green, Blue Lift. And so on.

Thanks

According to RED the first thing you must do is adjust the white balance and then set the mid-gray point using the new FLUT™.

This is particularly important with my footage as I often intentionally mis-set the white balance in camera to get the look I want on the monitors. In post the white balance should be set correctly, and then the footage should colored roughly towards the look of the white balance I set in camera.

That's DP specific though.

That said, I haven't handled any R3Ds in quite some time.

Regards,

Set WB, and then adjust ISO as we don't have a FLUT control gui in Color. FLUT is working behind the scenes though! If you need to do fine adjust, you can get by with the brightness control.

Set Saturation where you like it, use REDGamma / REDColor, and then I'd go to the primary Lift / Gamma / Gain controls built into Color. However, it's wise to ensure that the RED Tab doesn't clip as I don't think that the Color LGG can pull back highlights the way that the one in REDCine-X can.

This has been my experience as well. If the highlights are gone due to your RED tab settings, they're gone for good. So make your settings in the RED tab accordingly.

In REDCine-X, FLUT extends all the way to the end of the image processing pipe including LGG, but in Color, it just extends as far as the end of the RED tab.

Grahame,
seems to me with all control in redcine-x it is better to do wb, flut and basic one lights in redcine-x or rocket-x then transcode to 444 and then work within FCP??

I know there's a million workflows one can utilize, but seems that is pretty easy to do.
