0 for 2 on Red Arms

My first RED arm failed about 6 months ago. Yesterday my second RED arm failed. Pretty much the same thing - just stopped being able to lock into position. Just seems odd to me that I'd have 2 fail. Is this common?

Israeli arms are not perfect. If you over tighten them, they start to get play in them and the brake rods crush as well as the clips that hold the ball joints in place. The arms should only be used on items that are light weight such as the Red 5.6" or even 7". Using it with the EVF then you are going to want to tighten more since you want to make sure the finder does not move and then the problems start. If you want a good mounting arm, try the hydrostatic series from manfrotto. Strong as hell. Or get one of the many solutions for the EVF, like Element technica, Zacuto, Etc....

I have a big red arm now.. before i had a smaller one.. first they weaken, then they pop!

All of our short RED arms have broken. The Large ones are still going strong though. Think the key is not to overtighten, I only use them for the LCD or maybe a 416, and they stay in place no probs.

For the EVF (or everything if the camera is running about a lot) we use Zacuto stuff.

I've only used mine for the 5.6" LCD so not a lot of weight. My guess is they just aren't that strong. Perhaps you start to overtighten because the LCD starts slipping over time and eventually you get the failure.

The Nogas are no good for anything that weighs more than the arm itself. Sure, they can do it for awhile, but they weaken when consistently loaded beyond their tolerances. Then ruination, pain and death quickly follow... for the arm I mean.

I've kept my longer arm alive by supplying it with parts from the smaller ones... Which doesn't really help fix the problem. And now I'm down to one half-ass long arm from 3 Arms... I'd suggest going with something non-RED.

I've had 2 for going on 2 years, no problems at all. we only use them for LCDs, and maybe small accessories. never overtighten them, never have a problem.

What about the one that came with the EVF. How is that one working out. We already stated that the arm can support the same or lighter weight than itself. And try telling renters not to tighten down too much.
