Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Thanks for posting this. I wonder by what mechanism the future upgrades would occur. Software? Hardware upgrade? It would be nice to know what the future pricing would be to accomplish the upgrade.
Oh wow, you're right about the reporting on the upgrade. I do see that in the Pro Video Coalition article.
"Future Upgrades
V-RAPTOR XE owners who later want to expand to the V-RAPTOR [X] feature set will be able to have their XE camera fully upgraded.
“RED remains committed to developing a...
Let me know if this has been addressed elsewhere and I missed it.
Are the internals of the XE completely different from the full featured X? Or is this just a software handicapped version that could, potentially, be "upgraded" to a full X down the road if RED decided it made financial sense to...
I have also shot many, many an interview on ELQ, mostly just to save me the hassle of switching cards and managing media on small crew stuff. But the image quality hasn't let me down at that compression level.
The MixPre-6 is arguably a better recorder than those other options but probably not dramatically. The advantage might be that you'd have audio direct into the Komodo so you wouldn't need to worry about syncing later. But if you're already running timecode then it's not a big deal to sync...
I own both the OG Komodo and a Sound Devices MixPre-6 II.
All you need to do is run the 3.5mm stereo out from the MixPre to the 3.5mm audio input on the Komodo and you're in business.
Set all of your levels appropriately so that the MixPre is doing all of the heavy lifting and functioning...
I've shot many an interview on my Komodo in ELQ. All of them were destined for the web, but they held up just fine and looked great. I can imagine if you don't have super busy backgrounds or a lot of movement going on then ELQ would work.
I would usually run a Sennheiser MKH 416 shotgun into a...
It's not a heavy addition by any means. Not something I've noticed too much.
Yep, price is all subjective of course, but if it meets your needs like it has met mine then it may be worth it. I do use the timecode and a lot of the power ports. I actually do not use the camera control at the...
I've also not tried the Core plate so unfortunately I can't offer any feedback there.
I would agree though that the features of the Mutiny IO make me prefer it to other options on the market. I also love the big run/stop button on the top of the Mutiny IO. It's almost exclusively where I find...
Looks like their power only version of their battery mount.
Should be as good as their other options if you don’t need or want the breakout portion of their more expensive plate that has additional outputs for timecode, camera control, etc.
I will weigh in here to say that I've shot many, many an interview in ELQ and it was fine for my uses. This was mostly for corporate talking heads that ended up on the web and the clients were all perfectly satisfied.
That being said, if you have the storage for it, both in camera on the cards...
Completely agree Brian. I've known people who had absolutely no issues at all, things connected right away.
And for whatever reason, there are those of us who could not get things to work with our specific cameras, phones, hardware, etc, even when following RED's official instructions to a T...
Plenty of issues with the app, your phone, your phone's operating system version, etc., etc.
I have the best luck when turning off my iPhone's cellular data and then connecting to the Komodo's wifi signal and then opening the app. That seems to work 99% of the time for me.
