Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Even the old Scarlet MX sensor had a lovely, film-like look to it. Which makes sense, because that is Red's raison d'être.
And what's interesting is that the V-Raptor already has more DR than a medium format camera like a Phase One or a Fujifilm. Fewer pixels though.
Edit: Cute bird!
Even the best Phase One camera can't give as much DR as the V-Raptor. And that's before EH is turned on. I wonder if perhaps photographers would sacrifice megapixels for latitude and frame rate.
What do you think? Notice that the style of the Georgian alphabets does match the style of the characters in the Voynich manuscript. There are not many direct matches between the characters. But, just enough to make it interesting.

'Full frame' means something different in cinematography (if it means anything at all). In photography, full frame never referred to the size of the sensor. E.g. the Olympus 4/3 DSLRs were advertised as 'full frame' cameras, which meant that the image circles of those lenses were matched to the...
It has been a long time since I planned to install a basic but decent home cinema. The plan is simple: large display, stereo sound, multiple sources. I will no longer have a TV.
My plan is in two stages. This year, I have budgeted for an HD projector. Next year, I'll be able to go 4K, but I'll...
I think I've cracked it - to some degree at least. When we are looking at screens, we are looking at them in a greater context. That's why our eyes don't apply their own 'white balance'.
I sent a few more Christmas cards this year than I did last year. I hope to keep that trend. Email and e-cards just don't hit the same. I don't mind if people send me e-cards, but I never have, and never will, send an e-card. The small pleasure of receiving and sending physical cards is worth...
There's no point unless you're getting significantly more resolution. DR will be slightly more but not enough to be worth it by itself.
Film and digital are very different. I estimate that digital sensors need 1/4 of the surface area of film to match film on a technical level. Also, the...
I think you'd agree that having accurate colours to begin with is an advantage. And it's different for digital: if your Bayer filter is off, colours will come out wrong, especially challenging colours.
This was quite revealing. What looks like 12 stops is actually 5 or 6. So now I think I understand the difference between DR and latitude much more. But not completely.
I dare say that this should be true for all software, including the OS. Just as a precaution.
Edit: I will one day watch the documentary made about FCPX.
Is it necessarily a bad thing? Does it show a serious flaw in modern sensor tech? I can't answer that question. I just make observations.
I note that Red and ARRI are leading in the DR department, and are separated by a fraction of a stop at the high end in ARRI's favour (Phil Holland, 2023)...
