Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
I use these, the clip top ones, the press top ones can loosen and just don't feel as tight.
Felli Flip Tite Storage bundle
Throw in a silica gel packet or two and it's set in a nice hard shell container. I haven't had a problem with this in years but when the collection gets big it can get to...
I still advocate for Canon EF and Nikon AF lenses to be converted into manual cinema lenses for this very reason! Even the Minolta AF and Sony Zeiss AF lenses are pretty nice too! I have a few busted Nikon AF and Canon EF lenses that are just waiting for that treatment, a Nikon 24-120 F4, a...
Edith, we have a NAB 2025 Rumors & Wishlists thread that you can follow, let us know what you would hope to see! Here:

Possibly! We'll have to see if any more is revealed at NAB or maybe at Cinegear Expo in June. With Nikon in the mix, we could see a return to more traditional announcement schedules or maybe RED will continue on its own announcement and release schedule. Time will tell!
Okay, there's a good number of low hours Monstro cameras out there, one I saw has just a little over 7 hours of use. What gives? Was Monstro not used all that much? Unlike other RED cameras that typically have at least 1,000 hours of use, why is the Monstro so untouched? For being the top end...
Alright, not too big of a surprise, we all knew it was coming eventually, but we now have Komodo X and V-Raptor X cameras with Nikon Z Mount! This opens up the great Nikon Z lens lineup as well as legacy Nikon F lenses to work flawlessly with RED's newest cameras as well as the Sony G Master...
Do a Google search for one, for a big event like NAB there's a few that will surely pop up. While not every trade event has free exhibits pass codes, it's best to pick one that you support when a number of them are available.
Hello, everybody, it's that time of year! NAB 2025 is a little over a month away and there's already been some good indications for what could be coming at the show! Here's some predictions following the surprisingly successful list from last year:
RED - With new Medium Format cine lenses...
Dynamic Range is going to be topped out where it is right now without new innovation. RED's HDRx solution was a step in the right direction and needed to step up to 3+ streams to really get the HDR video aspect going. Spheron's prototype 1080P HDR video camera several years ago was the ideal...
Have two monitors, really the only way. External monitor manufacturers understand the need for various desqueeze options but camera manufacturers can't seem to understand that this should be basic functionality in every camera these days.
Okay, Full Frame, S7i or S8i for the best Cooke look?
As for being around a while, they have their new 65mm Medium Format lenses coming so they have a plan for the future! (y)
I am eager to see the results and final product, unifying all of these still very capable cinema cameras with a shared media base will go a long way towards including more RED products in peoples' lineup of offerings and just to have them as tools again for many that may have moved on to other...
I told everybody the clue for where we go next was in the 65mm lens releases, Blackmagic’s Cine 17K alone wouldn’t spur this level of lens development from everybody, other players are getting into the medium format game going forward. It’s a shame Arri’s camera couldn’t be higher resolution, at...
That mysterious side of things would be a repeat of a previous discussion with Z-mount RED camera lines being introduced, even as simple as modified Komodos and Raptors at the very least. A firmware update for R3D recording on Nikon Z cameras is also related to this prediction but it will depend...
My predictions so far for 2025 actually leans towards RED, Sony, and Panasonic rocking the boat with new releases.
1. RED releases a new high end model - Perhaps first entry into Medium Format as that is the name of the game going forward on the high end.
2. Sony - FX 8K camera, the name "FX8"...
I am very glad that the camera has been testing so great! We are absolutely going to be looking at the 12K OLPF, 12K LF, and 17K 65 going forward, Blackmagic Design is doing an amazing job! Admittedly, the only thing missing is an 8K/12K Pocket or Pyxis model to make up the smaller formfactor...
This is cool, just about exactly what I predicted would have been at NAB this year! Only caveat seems to be it's still a FF 8K camera but, hey, it's a start! Hopefully they fixed some of the other footage problems people point out like moire and aliasing which I have seen examples of in the few...
Nikon clearly does listen and with these moves towards video and cinematic work, I am sure they will become more and more active on these forums as things progress into 2025. For example, on Twitter:
While I am not sure if this will become "NikonUser" with RED still being its own entity...
So Newsshooter did a review on the Kipon PL to PL Focal Reducer:
https://www.newsshooter.com/2024/10/21/kipon-pl-pl-0-7x-focal-reducer-review/
Sounds like it does a great job! The most exciting aspect is the ability to switch to Sony E mount and other mounts which effectively turns a S35 PL...
