Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Hopefully a random glitch and not a bug.
If it happens again save a log file before shutting down or rebooting.
MENU > MAINTENANCE > SAVE LOG.
This can help RED when troubleshooting.

That sounds promising.
There were recent reports of people getting corrupt files on long takes that did not initially indicate any type of error.
I never saw that in my testing with 1.8.3 and .4 so hopefully that was fixed as well.
Will see.
Firmware updates have recently been a source of sturm...
I’m holding off from upgrading for the moment as I need both of my Komodo’s for current shoots.
Will try out when I get through that work.
It’s a little concerning that ProRes was not mentioned in the firmware notes.

Yes that would have been cool to meet up.
I was really only there for a few hours on the first day but it looked like a very good show.
Let me know if you plan on attending other events in the area.

Last month at the B&H Bild expo I spoke a little with James Lucarelli who is the Director, Technical Sales and Training at RED and he gave a bit of insight on REDcode.
I'm paraphrasing from memory but he explained how the codec basically targets more higher frequency detail (i.e sharper finer...
Seems that B&H currently has a 50% off sale on all RED branded batteries from Komodo to Raptor XL.

Portkeys announced this new 7" monitor for $450 that looks pretty nice.

I also finished experimenting with using Android smart phones with USB-C and RED Control instead of iPhones...
RED had yet to release an update regarding these current issues with Pro Res so you might be cautious.
I can say the older firmware 1.7.5 is solid as I have been shooting Pro Res with that version for almost 2 years including yesterday with no issues.

I do think a Vista Vision Komodo X is a real possibility. I think it will remain 6k and will likely not have the Raptor’s frame rates but the increased pixel size over the current S35 Komodo X would likely yield better dynamic range.
Will see.
In the meantime the current KX is excellent...
That’s an interesting setup Howie.
I like the 3D printed handle over the wing grip idea.
You might have a product there.
What type of USB-C cable are you using for connecting to the Phone? It looks durable.

I have not really used the Outrigger handle but I did get the Clutch control grip which ergonomically is great
and might functionally be equally great if I can get the firmware app for programming the button wheels to work better.
You have to make sure to buy with a special adapter for RED...
If that lens was parafocal and weighed a bit less it would be the most perfect low cost lenses I ever come across.
Despite that it's still among one of the most perfect low cost lenses I ever come across.
Sigma generally makes some very impressive lenses particularly their wide open aperture...
There have been reported error messages that can come up with 2K ProRes but I never saw repeated corrupt clips like you’re showing.
You would be best to contact RED SUPPORT.

I think I used needle nose pliers in the past for really tight antennas.
Hopefully the antennas is sitting flush in the socket. If it’s on angle and sort of jammed into the socket it can be a bit of pain to loosen.

Yes this is a growing concern.

Didn't know they were having one in NYC area.
I've never been to a REDucation but from what I understand of the course it's seems to lean more
on the understanding basic technical issues involving cinematography specific to RED cameras and
workflow.
Considering your KX investment, if you have...
Not sure if there is something wrong with the cable, the lemo port, or the drive.
Those drives were released over 15 years ago. It would be a small miracle that you get that
long of service life on what is essentially 2 stripe raided 2.5" hard drives.
Consider getting something like this for...
