Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Congrats on the film, Michael! I think it looks great and really enjoyed the comedic performances.
As for the script, the industry satire hits (over the top commercial director who talks in poetry but has shallow ideas, the safety officer, the robots like the unappreciated techs doing the real...
Me three. I think one variable is your lens, though-- are you using small primes, where your center of gravity will still be in the Komodo body itself? (I'm shooting with a regular Cine Saddle and Komodo tomorrow, but will have a larger zoom.)
The obvious answer would be the Apple MacBook Pro line.
I’m guessing you don’t want to hear that, but I’ll just point out that it has become fairly easy to run a multi-operating system environment for many purposes, so it might be worth taking a look.
If you have a backdrop on light stands, you can sometimes light it with a centrally placed light raised over the back—if you have something with a wide spread (the Litepanels Astra Soft is pretty good for this), and especially if you can tolerate some falloff towards the edges.
Otherwise, two...
I'm with you on this, much prefer the forum experience. (And I'm not on facebook anyway.)
For my part, I check into RU most days just to see if there are interesting discussions. The other place I drop in in recent years is reddit (on the cinematography or related subreddits). There are a lot...
Matthew Duclos's lens blog just put up a post with some thoughts on a number of the "affordable" sets designed with mirrorless in mind, might be helpful:

This does look very nice…
The other problem with EVFs of course is where and how to mount them. I own the Portkeys for my Komodo, but rarely use it due to unsatisfying and limited mounting options. The Bright Tangerine mounts look pretty good but are quite expensive—though I’ve probably spent...
And are you buying a lens set, or a single lens? Can you tell us anything about what qualities you want in that lens?
Do you like a very "clean" look, or do you like "vintage" characteristics? Do you need it to be particularly fast, or would you choose a more compact lens over one that opens to...
I feel the same way you do-- I wish there were more $20M movies and fewer superhero movies, young adult franchise adaptations, and "reboots" of old material. We had sort of a golden era of movies with mid-tier budgets in the late 90s into the 2000s, when filmmakers who proved themselves at film...
I’d be excited for good viewfinder options—something affordable and up to the task of solo operating (which means both decent image quality and flexibility).
Improved AF will be nice (though I don’t use it much now, I enjoyed leaving a B-cam unattended on a recent interview shoot with a Sony...
Thanks for posting this-- talk about a movie that fully takes advantage of the color process!
I worked with Alter Ego in Toronto on one project this past year-- great folks and great work!
Still, this is a very cool device.
Feels like we've been shrinking cameras for the past 10 years-- and now it's time to spend some of the weight savings! Let's get the Ronford-Baker sticks out of the closet...
Back-up monitor only used a few times. Very good condition, works perfectly.
This model offers wireless control of cameras like the Red Komodo (as well as Sony, Panasonic, ZCam, and Blackmagic models), it also will power and control a Tilta Nucleus FIZ motor. Extremely handy device.
Includes...
There’s definitely been discussion here over the years, so you’ll want to do some searching. You might include the term “versions” if you’re having trouble just searching 17-50 or whatever.
That said, if you have the two lenses, why not test your specific copies yourself? That will give you the...
Impressive setup! I love that you can store the Monstro partially built, with Teradek, kippertie mount, and baseplate attached—must be very quick to start shooting.
(That said, would you travel with all those cables connected? Or just once you get to set? I’d be concerned about damaging an...
All great tips from @Patrick Tresch.
The other broad subject to think about for low light cinematography is your overall lighting approach. ISO and lens aperture are about adjusting the overall illumination level in your scene-- to simplify, they affect both highlights and shadows the same. So...
