Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Hey, everybody, so there's so many lens options these days and some rehousing efforts have brought some SLR lenses back into the mix, namely Nikon and the Russian Helios sets, but some others have been done yet I don't see too much major work being done with them (Minolta, Konica, Zeiss Jena...
I missed that it was S35, definitely cool but with no 8K+ option, I'm still waiting to see what Arri can do in the high resolution space. They don't even need to compete with the URSA Cine line at 12K and 17K, just do great 8K and catch up!
Hey, everybody, so I was looking back at Canon FD lenses again and while I like the set I have built up, I wondered about the missing 24mm 1.4 Aspherical which is still incredibly expensive and sought after. I had recently lucked into rounding off my Rokinon Cine DS set with the 14mm and 24mm...
If I were making that decision on a practical level it would just be the media options and RF mount to consider. From what I've seen, they are very close in terms of image performance and you are thinking of all the right reasons for an upgrade.
I have been keeping an eye on used RED cameras...
Really? I guess I'll leave it up to the mods to clean up the member list. I know these bots are everywhere on the social networks, really hard to keep a conversation going!
Yes, I'm finding potential investors for Babs Do Studios can be names I've heard of on the news or business magazines or are directly connected to the bigger names but then there's just so many that nobody seems to know anything about but most research shows that so many of them actually aren't...
I am pleasantly surprised how well the RED One MX holds up after all of this time! When watching I got the feeling that the real upgrade came from the Gemini footage which seems to be in its own realm and then Monstro pops off the screen pretty nicely with RED V-Raptor close behind, Helium...
Wanted to stop in and say that I sort-of called it with the Panasonic and Arri partnership! The new S1II series cameras having Arri Log being added at a later date will essentially make them handheld 6K Full Frame Arri Alexas with internal Prores RAW, definitely seems like there could be more to...
From our own research, depending on the pixel pitch size (smaller you can film closer), you should treat it more along the lines of a bluescreen/greenscreen shoot and not cause spill or reflections on the background with your lighting by keeping a set distance from the subject to the screen.
I would have said the Helium or Komodo since you weren't too into Full Frame and factoring in your intended use case. The Pyxis shouldn't be too bad of an option either as you can drop down resolution and BRAW is very flexible but compressed options sounded like a big deal so it's all workflow...
The thing is, sometimes announcements make it to the summer rather than NAB and I'm only predicting that RED/Nikon has to make a move on Medium Format after seeing Blackmagic Design's 17K 65 step up the game and Arri's 265 and Fuji's Eterna making such a splash at NAB and in the headlines as...
Summary of my predictions for 2025:
RED - Nikon Z Mount added to Komodo-X and V-Raptor but no Medium Format camera as of yet.
Nikon - Same as above.
Both predictions could change by Cinegear in June though!
Fujifilm - The Eterna camera continues to be developed and now we have confirmation...
These were really pretty in person! They do have that wrapping edge distortion wide open but overall if you already like the Athena T1.9 lenses, the Aureus ones go to T1.4 for that extra bokeh and low light oomph! The flare performance was also very good even at T1.4 and, for us, that equates to...
Thanks for the clarification, Phil, I was just surprised to see the name change right around NAB like that but I do remember that Jarred owned the studio now that you mention it. I'm looking forward to NAB 2025, it's looking like it will be a big year and hopefully at least some of my...
So far the news around the webs is that Blackmagic Design will have a 12K PYXIS camera body at the show! I haven't been to the convention center myself to see if the window art is 100% confirmed in this age of AI but, if true, it is quite the surprise! I wonder what the competition's response...
