  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe Premiere CS5 FREE Trial Available for Download

PP CS5 is fast and furious. Using it with a Gulftown and a Quadro 4500 and a simple raid 0.
Now open it to the RRocket and we are cheetas.

Answered my own question. :(

Both cards require 800MHz Ram models

Overview
Upgrade to the best graphics performance available with the EVGA GeForce GTX 285 video card for the Mac Pro. The 1GB of GDDR3 memory and 240 processing cores maximize performance with graphics-intensive applications like 3D gaming, motion graphics, 3D modeling, rendering and animation.
Features

Second-generation NVIDIA Unified Architecture
NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology
NVIDIA CUDA technology
PCI Express 2.0 support
Two dual-link DVI to drive up to two 30-inch displays
OpenGL optimization and support
System requirements

Mac Pro (Early 2009 with 1066Mhz DDR3) or Mac Pro (Early 2008 with 800Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory)
One open PCI Express x16 2.0 slot (Note: card is double-wide and will cover an adjacent, open slot unless installed in PCI Express Slot 1)
Mac OS X v10.5.7 or later

Mine has 667Mhz Ram

I'm downloading as well. As I do not have a certified Nvidia Card, I'm quite curious how much difference towards CS4 there will be.

No trial needed. I'm definitely making the switch from FCP to Premier. Been using AE for a long time...

I'm having the same inclination. I seem to have got tired of the FCP interface. PLUS making those trips from FCP to AE, uh. PLUS I get the feeling that Apple is not too interested in FCP development.

Without Cuda, performance is very similar to CS4. Although, there are a host of new functions and the interface is slightly different.

I thought the 64bit Mercury Playback Engine makes better use of the system in general (CPU cores, 4+ GB Ram, 64bit OS AND Cuda)?

Do we need the RED CS5 Installer or is it supposed to be fully integrated with CS5? I can't seem to import files (error says invalid file format)

What is everyone else experiencing?

edit: tried it again and everything worked as expected. no plugin required.

thx

On my 3.1 mac with gtx, diting color fxetc smooth as butter. On my i7 gt 120 not so smooth, but much faster

Well Premiere is beautifully smooth on my system with HD footage and R3Ds 4K (1/2 rez work nicely) - with blur and other effects added. The trial download for AE and PS crash instantly. Not sure why it just says "Stopped Working" as soon as boots. Will have to wait for the Production Premium to arrive and see if its some kind of system conflict - I hope not.

Win 7 64 bit
i7 930
12GB RAM
GTX 285

Whilst true, in reality my editing experience hasn't changed very much at all since upgrading to CS5.

I think it's time to upgrade our video cards!

I am getting more smooth buttery results without CUDA so far.
Its subtle, but its there. The playback is for the first time finitely responsive.

The 64 bit has sped up all the little things, such as maximizing the preview. Try holding the tilde key on that window, and be blown away by the sheer seizure inducing speed of the flashing screen.

The loading of every little thing is so much faster with 64, and stupid problems with old releases have been fixed (default frame blending off, export screengrab, obvious maximum render quality button, pause resolution, etc).

Is there any way to get Mercury to run on any other Nvidia CUDA GPUs other than the few specified? It seems like a ridiculous restriction. I am sure they will enable more in the future, but it feels like a software restriction rather than a hardware one.
