So we shot this music video... It's for a major artist so I'm posting just a tiny shot here so as not to piss off the artist but we've ran into this line across about 40% of the footage. It was a Hot Hot day out when we shot but... I'm wondering is there a work around for this anyone knows of?

We'd like to look at both the log and a sample r3d.
Please email me (deanan at red . com)?

Sorry Rick I don't know - the shoot was last September, we're just now in post on it as it was delayed for a bit. Also I was the director so I wasn't as keen on remembering the ISO.

also, not sure if heat was an issue, there were no overheating problems all day, and camera was in shade for most of the time....not sure if any of this helps ;)

anyone got a magic line eraser plugin? hehe

Yes, there is such a magic line eraser:-) It's called scratch removal tool and it's very simple fix.

Did you black shade the camera at temperature on the day? The noise character of the sensor will shift dramatically depending on the operating temperature of the camera. If you did the shading in an air conditioned rental house and shot on a 90˚ day... that sort of thing will pop up.

I would say, based on the amount of samples of this showing up recently (including our own in another thread), that it's a bug that's crept in to the firmware either at 21.4.1 or the newer build 30 betas.

Seems unlikely that a bunch of different cameras suddenly develop the same hardware fault, especially as it doesn't seem to matter whether it's M or M-X sensor. I'm sure Red will figure this out, hopefully soon of course!

Cheers,

Paul

I had a similar problem last year. New camera with only a few hours on it....BLACKSHADING before using seemed to help a lot of users. In my case the video board had an internal problem. BUT, my lines were red lines and not one, but two or three lines.

A blackshade seems to be critical and i do one before every shoot and then as conditions change such as heat and if i can i'll do one every 4-5 days if i'm on a multi-day shoot.....that might be kind of a bit too much, but i lost two days of footage becuase of the lines in footage, and you really cannot see it while monitoring through the LCD or EVF. It only seems to be viewable in post on a large monitor AND in 1/2 of Full Resolution.

black-shade; black-shade, black-shade!! and if that does not fix it, send home to mother for a fix.

I have seen this issue before. I am not 100% that it is temperature related because the same thing happened to me, but it was a non temp change from where I black shaded to where I shot. I am pretty sure I read that there is a fix on here somewhere.
