  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Build 183...

me too...

me too...

I would use this a lot if it was available...

Deanan or Jim,

Wondering if you guys have considered adding a still store feature to RedcineX. I think a lot of people want to use this to create very nice looking dailies. It is nearly impossible to accurately match color grades shot to shot without a still store implementation. I think it would be a feature that would get a lot of use.

Thanks,

Eric

Apple monitors???

Apple monitors???

We would like to use the 30" also but it's probably the most limited monitor we've come across in terms of formats it supports. By comparison, the NEC higher end monitors support practically everything.

Do any of the Apple monitors work? Or are they all as limited as the 30"??

Since RedCine-X starts to be such a powerful grading tool a suggestion: Is it possible that the RC-X grading of each graded footage were stored somewhere as metadata. Then when one edits with Premiere Pro, FCP, or whatever the software picked this metadata and applied the RC-X color grading automatically along the edit?

It sounds like some corrupt footage.
Can you send us a clip?
Deanan, I can´t send you a clip (to big) but it helped a lot. I made some tests and found out I can´t copy these files at a decent speed (max 90KB or even not at all) which -I guess- means they are corrupted.
If the corrupted files are in the same folder/bin all clips in there start to behave strange.
BTW The corrupt footage is from two different days. All the footage from those days is corrupted. I just made some tests with the exact same setup (hardware and camera settings) today again and everything is okay with it.
Is there a "Redundead" tool for PC?

Thanks,
Marc

i second this suggestion - i have wished for this many, many times.

What debayer settings do you have selected?

4K r3d; 10bit DPX; 2x1 and 16x9 1080p Exports:

If I select FULL=Exports FULL
If I select Half-Premium=Exports FULL
If I select 1/4=Exports FULL
If I select 1/16=Exports FULL
If I select Nearest Fit=Exports FULL

When I open these DPX files in AE-CS4 and 200% zoom them and close compare, the files are Identical (they look like the exact same Debayer setting.)

Also, all the Debayer settings above result in the exact same render time (17 frames per minute); whereas with v104 FULL was 15 fpm; Half-Premium was 63 fpm; Half-Good was 98 fpm; Nearest Fit was 58 fpm and between these settings there were definite differences in quality and aliasing (as you had described in a previous thread)

Debayer: You can set a debayer type for each source resolution so if you want 4k to use a half and 2k to use a full debayer. This was a frequent reduser request.

Timecode setting is in the next significant build.
I believe it's auto selecting now based on what was primary on camera.
(will have to get back to you on that but the explicit setting will be better).

RCX doesn't use redline to render like redrushes did.
More multithreading is being worked on.

What about HD, if you can set the Debayer for 4k, 3k & 2k... what about HD? and other custom resolutions.
Sorry I just don't get the 4k, 3k & 2k selections as it seems restrictive.

Bummer about the TC, as this is a major feature.

Please could you answer about the Debayer filter (B-Spline, Quadric, Mitchell, Gaussian, Box, Triangle, Lanczos, Sinc, Cubic, Linear)

What about the OLPF?

Is it possible to stick to one consistent naming convention for the Debayer quality?

1/1
1/5
1/4
1/8

are all very precise compared to figuring out what Low or Medium actually means as they can differ from window to window and software to software

That's the intention of the RMD files.

This might be a bug in 183 on windows. We're looking into it.

It's more flexible actually which what people had asked for compared to RA/RR which only let you set one debayer regardless of source resolution.
Note I said source resolution, so stuff like destination HD is not included as you're setting the debayer for footage that you shot as 4k, 3k, or 2k.

The filters abover are scaling, not debayer filters. The names are standard names and they're all high quality but with different properties.

It's Red Code Plug-in 2.9 BETA. Again, Color is working correctly and Red Cine X is washing out the colors.

That's the older color plugin which was the older color science. The old rec709 was very over saturated and pushed colors in the wrong direction.

What is the advantage of exporting to 16 bit DPX from REDCINE? What applications can ingest DPX 16-bit? After Effects does not ... I hope CS5 will do.

I second Adrian's question? Are there advantages of using DPX files over QT ProRes files for platforms such as Final Cut Pro at HD resolutions?

So your saying if I have shot 4k then I should choose only the 4K Debayer option and leave the rest...
This is still confusing, sorry. Why can't it just be setting the Debayer of what ever resolution you shot, as regardless you have to Debayer the image.
Seems too many options to something that has to be set regardless of the resolution the footage was shot in.
Or are you saying that it will change the Debayer looking at the Bin media and if it has 4k, it will Debayer to say half and if it then comes to a 2k shot you can set that to Full... seems a bit confusing still

Yes the filters are important as some footage which is being transcoded to say SD needs a different filter as you'll get jaggy lines.

Yes the filters are important as some footage which is being transcoded to say SD needs a different filter as you'll get jaggy lines.

The options are there because sometimes you may not need full quality and want to just generate a faster image for transcoding. Sometimes you want full control.

We're going to add the selection for the scaling filters back in but no doube someone will way it's too confusing as they have in the past.

I think that's exactly what he's saying. Only it would appear that it may not be working correctly in 183 (see post #71).

We're going to add the selection for the scaling filters back in but no doubt someone will say it's too confusing as they have in the past.

Having options is always useful to those who understand what the options mean, and confusing to those who don't!

Still getting the black frame issue using this latest build. Tried exporting to all flavours of DNxHD and DPX/TIFF. First few frames render as normal, but then get sporadic black frames. Windows version.

That's the older color plugin which was the older color science. The old rec709 was very over saturated and pushed colors in the wrong direction.

The problem is that I can't get anywhere near enough saturation with Red Cine X. The green screen is severely washed out with all the settings that I've tried. Apple's Color is the only way I can get the color at a good level of saturation.
