  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redcine-x 104 for windows on vista 64bit crashes every time I try to render out files. this did not happen on older versions.

Keith

Can you email the log files after turning on verbose logging?

I'm having the exact same problem with 104. I went back and tried version 101, though, and same thing.

When would the next version will be available? I can't export anything for the moment..

Running Windows 7, 64bit, build 7600

I can export DPX and TIFF only.

Last Beta Build on PC I could also export Quicktime but not with this download of Build 104.

Holy....................pin drop....................

Would love to hear news about it too. RedcineX Windows 7 with build 30.4.1 footage completely worthless here. I can´t even load a file without crashing it. With 30.3.1 it works, but no way to get it stable with exporting files.
I really hope CS5 will be out soon, or should I buy a new Mac? I come to the conclusion: you really need both platforms to work with R3d´s.

For quicktime problems, try reinstalling quicktime.

The crash reports we've diagnosed so far have been due to graphics card or graphics card drivers. Frist thing I would suggest is to try RCX on a different machine.

A new windows version should be out hopefully next week.

Deanan, good to hear the Windows version is coming. Also would like to thank the Mac users for allowing themselves to get infected to see if the release would survive before porting to Windows. Hope no one died in the making of this new version.

Hey, Deanan, I’m a Windows XP-32bit and Windows 7-64bit user. Redcine-X is a great app and is very useful. However, between v101 and v104 two nasty problems have occurred: Render have suddenly become Very Slow and Loss of Detail/Resolution during Scaling.

My Output Workflow:
  • Open and first-light a 4k R3D file in Redcine-X
  • Export to either 2k or 1080p DPX or TIFF file using Full Debayer and “+3” Sharpness settings
  • Assemble and fine-tune individual shots After Effects CS4
  • Render out to AVI, QT or DPX depending on client NLE (usually Cineform AVI for Premiere)

Here’s the first problem: Export times of identical settings in v101 an v104 yield VASTLY different resuts:

v101 = 60-72 DPX or TIFF frames per minute Export
v104 = 12-20 DPX or TIFF frames per minute Export

Redcine-X v104 is Exporting 75% to 80% slower than v101. This would be okay if the resultant files were of higher quality than the previous version, but surprisingly they are not.

This leads me to the second problem: The resultant sharpness of the DPX or TIFF files coming out of v104 are much softer, almost blurred by comparison of v101. When I Export DPX or TIFF files done on my R1 with firmware 20.1.3, 21.4.1 or 30.4.1 and use identical settings in v101 and v104, the DPX or TIFF files exported with v104 are noticeably softer.

When I take identical DPX or TIFF frames exported out from v101 and v104 and go back-and-forth looking at them in AE at Full screen (67.9%), 100%, 200%, they certainly have lost resolution. Truthfully, the v104 frames look as though they are suffering from “Scaling Artifacts.”

I’ve run these identical Export/Scaling tests on my Quad-core Win XP-32bit desktop and my Dual-core Win 7-64bit Sony laptop with a wide variety of R3D files. The export times are within +/-2% of each other and the resultant DPX files all exhibit identical v104 “Scaling Artifact” results.

If you do the same test without scaling 4k to 2k or 1080 and just go 4k to 4k, there’s no difference between v101 and v104. So…Was the Scaling Engine/Algorithm changed between v101 and v104 for Win? Could this be what is causing the bogged-down rendering times and loss of fine detail and resolution?

(Unfortunately, there are artifacts that appear in the image when you use firmware 30 with Redcine-X v101, so I’ve got to stay in firmware 21. Which is too bad right now, I really like the v30 features and performance in-camera.)

Also, as I’m sure many already know (but I wanted to add my voice), the “Open/Save/Save As Project” features in Redcine-X (all versions since v54) do not work.

Check your debayer settings.
Full + scale will be smoother and less noise.
Half Premium is close the the above
Half Good appears sharper but is more aliasy and more noisy.

Noise isn't the problem. All of the Export settings I'm using between v101 and v104 are identical, but the v104 images show a loss of resolution and take forever to Export.

What about the Export speeds, none of the debayering settings change any of that on either XP-32 or Win 7-64, I always get slow Exports.

Deanan, forgive my insistence, this is something I've been trying to get sorted out for two weeks on my own (I've run in excess of 50 export combinations). I don't think it has to do with a simple improper setting in Redcine-X. The v104 program is stable, but is Exporting slowly and scaling worse than v101.

b101 didn't have the option of controlling the debayer settings.
I'm not sure how you're sure they're set the same when 101 was fixed at one setting.

The scaling as not changed. I know because I wrote it.

Deanan, if what you're saying is that anything Exported from v101 and v104 is an apples to oranges comparison, please give me the apples to apples debayer setting in v104 so I can make a fair comparison of the two and come to a reasonable solution.

Why are the exports soooooo....slooooow then, no matter what the debayer settings are?

101 did an automatch to the output resolution but I don't have the code with me to check.

104 does work as intended with the debayer settings on both win and mac. I just tested it and confirmed that speed is different with each setting and the expected debayer for each setting.

What is your export debayer set to under "debayer settings"?
