I'm wondering if anyone knows a good site, or a way to find out all the 3d movies in production at the moment.

Many, if not most, of the current stereoscopic productions don't use cameras at all (they're CG animated features). I would imagine those projects wouldn't be of much interest here.

Live action; I know of 2 in pre-production here in the UK. I hear of a few features slated for 3D but unsure as to if they will do 3D.

Certainly 3D movies are more expensive. Current thinking dictates that you need two cameras and a mirror rig for each lens. Approximately one at 8mm, one at 16mm and one at 25mm (s16 gate) because of the time it takes to set up and calibrate each lens setup. That is 6 cameras, three mirror rigs and one extra crew member per day. As I understand it zoom lenses are not necessarily the answer.

I would also point out that some pictures that have already been announced as 3D releases will be done as post conversions. This includes both of the forthcoming Harry Potter pictures, which are already in the can, as well as the current Alice In Wonderland and this past year's G-Force.

I'm not trying to minimize the importance of understanding 3D cinematography, or the potential impact in the future, but right now the equipment to do it right is a bit unwieldy and limiting. Many companies are working on ways to make it less so.

I am currently doing VFX on a 3D (stereoscopic) music video shot on with 2 RED cams working with 4K R3D files in AE. When shooting we had live stereo via DLP.
