Does anyone know where I could look at some comparable shots of RED and Iconix to see how they cut together?

As I read on the Recon thread for "Lovely Bones" Peter Jackson used both, using the RED for aerials and some VFX plates and using the Iconix for macro. I haven't yet watched that movie but I plan to very soon.

Anything else? Or just good Iconix samples?

How could those two cut well together? It's night and day in so many ways...

Southland - we used the Iconix all the time. Let's just say that they didn't intercut well. We also kept breaking them, so we switched over to 7Ds.

Love the little Iconix, don't get me wrong, it just wasn't up to handling the extreme high contrast with grace.

I don't really need it but I have a few ideas for interesting shots that would take advantage of the small size. I am mostly just asking because seeing it mentioned on "Lovely Bones" made me curious.

Go to Hulu and watch a few episodes from season 1 of Southland [after the pilot]. I think "See the Woman" has the most shots from the Iconix. If you see a shot that appears dramatically different... well... I bet you can find the Iconix shots.

Don't get me wrong, I love the camera for what it is. We were just trying to use it for something it isn't.

PS - easter egg hunt in that episode... I'm in there somewhere.

What I have found with the Iconix cut against other formats, is that it ends up cutting well not because of the image quality, but more becasue fo the way people tend to use the iconix.

You choose the Iconix for it's small size, that tends to put the caera in corners, which tend to end up being either POV shots or/and extreme wide angle shots. So the inherent greater DOF of the camera is masked with the wide angle shot which people naturally accept to have greater DOF. Since these are usually big jumps in the edit anyway most people tend not to notice to much.

Color and Dynamic range depend a bit to what recording medium your shooting to, but generally it's similar to shoulder based camera. With some good color correction it blends well.

The older 720p models that PJ used on 'Lovely Bones' or the newer 2k studio Iconix?

It was the new one.

The first Iconix shots show up after the first commercial break of that "See the Woman" episode. There are probably 3-10 Iconix shots per episode in the first season [after the pilot].

Now that the T2i is half the price for the same video in an even smaller package, think you guys will start using those?

When is the Canon EOS 550D going to hit the stores?

Canon is saying "early March". Availability of the more expensive cameras has not been very good at launch, but Canon tends to do have much higher inventory of cameras in this class, so I bet it will be easy to get one by the middle or end of the month.
