  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new REDCINE-X feedback

New Build (100) posted.

Jim

I'm also having a hard time getting framing and cropping to do anything. Problem persists with build 100. This is the first RedCine-X build I've used, so there is the chance that I just don't know what I'm doing.

Does anyone have this working? What exactly are the settings one must enter into the Framing window to get it to do something? Is there an APPLY button that I'm missing? I see no change to the player window no matter what I do here.

I know this is a work in progress, but going forward, a framing/resizing interface like in After Effects might be nice... i.e. set a composition size (1920x1080, 720x486, etc) that would be reflected in your player window, and then reduce/move around your oversized 4k footage as you wish. This was basically the implementation in Redcine, but it was still very numeric. It would be great to have a hand tool/reshape tool to do all this.

The framing tool works on clips that are in the player (from the bin) or on the timeline. If you have a clip open in the player, just set the framing and it'll use that for output.

A more elegant GUI is coming.

May I suggest that it would be a good idea if the framing tool defaulted to 'fit width', rather than 'stretch'. That way it would default to preserving the aspect ratio of 2:1 and 4.5k clips when rendered to HD resolutions.

It does work now, but having to make a 'fit width' preset, then apply it to all the clips in the bin to render dailies seems like an unnecessary extra step.

That's already on the todo list.

Hey Guys,
Here's a lame request...
I'd like to be able to add my own watermark when conforming in Redcine-X since
it appears to be the all purpose program superseding Red rushes.

Also on the todo list but for much later.

Really like the fact you said much later, because that sounds like you guys are gonna continue releasing add-ons as they are being incorporated. Great way to let us grow with the software.

REDcineX will keep growing for a very very long time.
We started all over to make sure we had a long term
platform to build on and keep building on for many years.

I also posted this in the Build 100 thread but I figure it has a better chance of getting answered here...

Here's a really COOL bug :-)

I spent 2 days re-grading footage with Build 90 and 99. Today I opened the project file in Build 99 and everything is gone. No footage in the timeline, no clips in the bin, nothing. Same thing in any other build that I try to open the project with. Guess I'm starting over!

Any ideas?

Ok, I've tried this in build 99 and now in build 101. When I go to export, this monitoring window comes up and then the whole thing crashes. I'm on Windows and getting really frustrated. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Please help.

That is awesome!

Quicktime/MXF resume: What are you aborting/resuming for? Would rendering in the background be an alternative?

Well, each clip takes over 5 hours to run. Sometimes things happen (like my After Effects crashes hard and refuses to run without restart) - and I need to restart my computer. So I lose everything rendered up to that point. I do mostly image sequences though. So if you could just save what frame a DPX / EXR render is on and then have the option to resume later when you re-load the project file, that'd be great.

OSC: We've looked at it for a long time now. Wave got higher priority first. Maybe if someone sends us a few iPads :)

Hehehe, I'm sure Jim can afford to buy a few if he stops eating at fancy restaurants for a while. Or tells the guys who wash his jet to not do Thursdays anymore. Or I can lend you guys some iPads and you can lend me a Scarlet? I had to ask :)

BTW I think I there may still be a little scaling weirdness left in RedCine-X as of Build 101. Either that or I'm in idiot mode again. Picture attached.

Here's what i post in build100 thread. I need to know...

Before i did any grading and change the color to RED Color & RED Gamma

I compared same shot & same frame, one open in Old RED Cine and the other one open in REDCine X build 100, both set to same RED Space & RED Space

Why do i see different thing ? The one from old REDCine looks more saturated than the build100, wouldnt it be the same ?

Deanan ? Any thoughts ?

I just lost four of hours of work with Redcine X (B101, my own responsibility), with >100 .r3d clips and I'm in the middle of the project so any help with clarifying few things would be really appreciated.

What I did:

1. I manually input in & out points
2. Put selected clips on the timeline
3. Did first light for clips on the timeline
4. Chose output folder and preset settings 1080p dpx with "subfolder per clip" checked on
5. Hit "export all clips in timeline"

What happened:

1. Redcine started rendering whole timeline in one dpx sequence (same folder)
2. Tried a couple of options - same outcome
3. Tried rendering "selected clips on the timeline" with two clips selected - Redcine finished in an instant and rendered nothing out
4. After re-opening Redcine and the project bin was still there, but there were no clips on the timeline and in/out points were also bye bye

Questions:

1. Is there any chance I can get back selected in & out points + chosen first light looks ?
2. Is there any chance Redcine X can render the timeline with subfolders for each clip, and if so what is the correct procedure besides checking the "subfolder per clip" ?
3. Can we expect FCP XML import any time soon ?

What kind of hardware, os, and graphics card?

Thanks for the clear example. That'll help quite a bit to recreate.
Can you send the log file for that one also?

1. Did you save your project? The bin's will be remembered on restart but all looks/edits/etc. should be saved and opened with the project file.

2. We're adding another workflow option to handle that use case better.

3. We're providing to hooks soon so 3rd parties can access that also.
(ie. support for other editing packages won't be limited to what we implement)

Yes, I saved the project often. Last time I saved it was after all the timeline was done and first light on all clips. On re-opened project timeline was gone. I also tried opening it with older version of Redcine X and that one doesn't even recognize the selected clips in the bin.

I'll try again in the morning and re-re-check.

Is it possible that the media moved?
Can you email me the log files and your rcx project file?
