New Shoulder mount

Hi Brian

Just wanted to give you and Daryl some feedback on my experience with your shoulder mount.

The RED's center of gravity is kept very low on your rig; this let's the camera rest extremely close to the operator's shoulder, which reduces unwanted side-to-side movement and makes me feel well connected during quick hand-held moves. In addition, the viewfinder is then naturally in straight line-of-sight, which allowed me to keep my neck straight and look directly on axis with the lens.

The shoulder mount, combined with the swap pack, can be configured in several convenient ways: we were able to balance the rig out perfectly while packing the RED with many accessories (wireless video, follow-focus, matte-box, hard drive, etc...) and when I was in tight spaces I could mount the swap pack on the top of the camera to reduce the overall length without compromising the balance that much.

Switching from hand-held to the ARRI Base Plate for fluid head operation is simple and very fast (I've had some time consuming difficulties with other rigs in the past).

The carbon components are durable and sturdy, and make the shoulder mount very light. So light in fact, that when I first put the rig on my shoulder, with reduced accessories, I told my assistant it was too light for my taste..!

Many of my fellow DoP's told me I was crazy to shoot a ten day narrative with 80% hand-held shots. And yes, the RED can be quite a "monster" in other configurations, but your shoulder mount helped make it a wonderful experience. My back feels just fine: chiropractors need not apply..!

Once again, thanks a lot for a great rig..!

Hi Quinn,
I´ll second your statements!
I use the ap shoulder mount togehther with a Easyrig cinema 3. It´s a perfect combination, because -like you pointed out- with the ap shoulder mount the R1 is very near to the face.
BTW I´m happy to have purchased this system. It looks like it will also fit with future cams from Red, like Epic, Scarlet...

Hey Marc

That's a good combo... I planned on using the easy rig too, but the first time I put it on, the buckle broke off 'cause I pulled it too tight..! In any case, the AP-Mount and Red configuration was light enough and I never missed the easy rig...

Cheers and happy shooting..!
