I had a job last night that required overnight REDRocket dallies with an urgent shipment deadline today. My REDRocket card was also used on-set for client playback in the Mobile Rocket enclosure, and with the turnaround being so tight, I didn't want to take it apart to do the transcodes...
So, I attempted to do the transcodes with the Mobile Rocket enclosure and the corresponding HBA Kit installed inside my MacPro tower (YES, I correctly changed the jumper settings in the Mobile Rocket first).
Unfortunately, I found that RocketCine-X would stop batch processing after completing just one clip! If I attempted a manual intervention (such as "pause" or "resume"), the application would stop responding, requiring a "Force Quit," followed by a full system re-start.
The solution was ultimately to switch the jumpers back to 'laptop' mode, and transcode via my MacBook Pro! On the one hand, I'm giddily impressed that the time ratio was roughly just 2:1!.. ;-) On the other hand, I'm also nervously wonder what the @#$% is wrong with my system that the MacPro stops transcoding after just one clip?!
Here are the details of the project specs and my system configuration:
Project Specs:
- REDCode28, 4KHD, REDSpace, 23.98fps, x2 Channels of Internal Audio
- Used R3D Data Manager on set for duplicate backups w/ checksums
Transcoding to:
- Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080
- Stereo Audio (Internal)
- Gamma Correction: "Automatic"
- 444 Chroma Sampling: Enabled
MacPro (8-Core Nehalem) Slot Configuration:
- Slot 1 (16x): ATI Radeon HD 4870
- Slot 2 (16x): AJA Kona LHi
- Slot 3 (8x): Maxx Digital HBA Card for Mobile Rocket
- Slot 4 (8x): Sonnet Tempo eSATA E4P
Once again, thankfully, the job was successful - thanks to the Mobile Rocket + MacBook Pro config. However, I need to be able to easily swap between 'laptop' and 'desktop' mode, and want to fix whatever's wrong so next time I can transcode more than one clip with the Mobile Rocket attached to my MacPro...
Your assistance is greatly appreciated - thanks very much in advance for all of your help!
Best,
- Jordan
