Hi everyone,

Here is my latest short movie filmed with a Canon 7D. I will soon be travelling aboard for an important movie project involving two 7D, so this short is a kind of quality and workflow test.
Everything was filmed in one day.
I hope you’ll like it guys ;-)

felicitations jean-michel! trés joli court métrage.

C'est tres bon!

That's about the extent of my french that I remember, but this looks great, and is a supurb example of what can be done in a short amount of time.

When you said that you filmed this in one day, how many hors were you shooting for?

Hi Ryan,

the whole team arrived on the set a saturday at 8.00 am, we prepared the shooting. We start filming at around 12.00 and we finished everything at 5.00 am the sunday ;-)

Also, what was your shooting budget?

Hi, excepted the camera and hardware (redrock + Marshall + lenses), everything cost me around 1000 euros total (renting of the light, power, smoking machine, dolly, food...etc).

Did that budget include locations and actors?

Location was free because we shot in the production company office and actors are friends that made it for nothing. In general in France, short movie are not something were people are asking for any money. We all do that for the fun because, anyway, everybody know that you don't do any money with a short.

Loved it. I almost never sit through a full short film, but watched this one to the end.

Very good acting for friends. I assume they are actors working for free?

Also, how did the car factor into your budget, or was that VFX? Looked pretty good from where I sit!

Well done!

Hi,

Yes, my friends are actors in France. The car was a loan from one of my friend and the whole VFX at the end were made by myself ;-)

If you don't anything serious to say with your story then easiest and common way of movie formula(e) is:

JUST GET NEUROTIC, TORTURE OR BE TORTURED

to move your action in a film...

So that's exactly how it happened here:

And even you can destroy that beautiful old car at the end of the film to get an effect without any certain meaning.

For what "heaven's sake"?

To gain a sort of absurdity?

Not so in any right direction of that...

It could be more honest and much better "effect" to shoot a short classic play from "Théâtre de l'Absurde" writers like a

Samuel Beckett, Eugène Ionesco, Jean Genet, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Fernando Arrabal, and Edward Albee...

I could remind the latest movie that shot on Harold Pinter's script:

"Sleuth" directed by Kenneth Branagh

and played by Michael Caine and Jude Law.

That was a masterpiece full of absurdity, shocking, excellent dialog, great acting, directing, cinematography, lighting, editing, interior design, production, etc,...

There is a certain great idea standing behind in this Pinter's script...but here hardly you can find any idea behind except JUST GET NEUROTIC, TORTURE OR BE TORTURED...

Also you don't need 7D to shoot a sort of movies like this in Vimeo site...

Just my "deux baguette" from Eric Kayser.

(Mes deux baguettes de Eric Kayser.)

I see a lot to like there, but I also have a question.

I haven't used a DSLR for video yet but have heard some criticism about focusing and monitoring. What has been your experience with that?

So, we still wait for your first film. How long is it now that you have had your red one ? Feels a bit like "waiting for godot"

Nice work jean-michel,

The story was a bit odd but I love the way you brought it together with non professional actors and gave it a sense of realism. You have a good eye. The 7d did a nice job. Imagine what you will accomplish with a Red digital camera (I'm sure you are). Keep on dreaming and best of luck.
