  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm getting the same issue as Mike.

I have two redrocket setups - one works fine and generates and aaf and mxf for every clip. The second system seems to create three mxfs for every clip (2 of which are always small file sizes and one is large).

Anyone else getting that?

Any ideas?

Does the R3D have audio - two tracks perhaps? Avid media uses MXF OP Atom 1a which has video and audio tracks as seperate files. So for a two auio track R3D file you will end up with one larger one for video, and two of the same size (smaller) for audio.

Hi Micheal,

First off thanks for the 24.00 support. I have an editor trying to import the mxf files and ALE's into his avid adrenalin system. He says it crashes every time. any answers as to why this would be? he is using a PC if that helps any. Thank you,

Hmmm.... One step at a time. If he copies the MXF files into the Avid MediaFiles folder, does the MC launch and index the folders with no problems?

he says no. as soon as he does the first red rocket mxf file it hangs up and he has to quit out of the program
 
Ok so this is what i am doing on my end, and hopefully you can guide me through what he needs to do on his end or what i need to change on my end. First i am using the pre beta of rocketcine x as supplied by deanan. seems to work great. i take my 24.00 files into rocket cine, link the bwf files and then export the files with settings of DnxHD 24.00 36 8 bit. under audio i have selected export external ( no audio in the R3D files just the bwf's) everything exports fine, no spaces in the file path. it does produce three items in the designated directory, AAF folder, ALE file, and MXF folder. the MXF folder contains all the MXF's including ones for each channel of audio, sometimes upto four, and one for video. so that is my settings. oh and i am also downrezing the dnxhd codec to 640 x 480. so that is my end of it. is there anything i am doing blatantly wrong? if not can you give me a step by step guide as to how to import them into avid adrenalin? I do not have avid and the demo i tried to download wont work because i am on snow leopard. also the person recieving them does not normally work on avid either, but is doing so on this show, so i need the instructions to be pretty basic and easy to follow. Thank you so much for your help,
 
I would first bring the MXF files into a 1080p/24 project first, then apply the ALE via relink or merge, Then go to SD if that is really necessary. You need to make sure that in the 1080p/24 project the picture and sound relink and play. Also, I find it easier to AutoSync within MC and we track all the BWF metadata rather than lose all that in the current beta version of ROCKETCINE.

OK, tried this still does not work. he says he is getting an omfi_HP_domain error. he says this usually means not enough space or more than 2000 files, neither of which are the case. Any ideas? Why am I the only one having these problems? clearly we are doing something wrong. or is the avid system just too outdated?
 
You can always put the MXF files you make in a folder called, 2, 3, 4, etc, instead of 1 if you feel are going over the limit. Media Composer automatically creates 2, 3, etc, when 1 gets too many files from the ones it is creating.

I just noticed in an earlier post you are downrezzing - are you doing this in ROCKETCINE? That certainly is uncharted territories as DNxHD is an HD format and not SD and forcing it into that raster size could lead to problems. Create DNxHD 36 files from ROCKETCINE-X first to see if that workflow works. If they still want SD, let the MC do the transcoding to SD.

the last set of files i sent were not downrezed in rocketcine. same issue. I can't think of any reason these would not work. the files themselves are okay as i used a mxf viewer to check them. something is at work here that i cant seem to figure out and can't even trouble shoot because i don't have avid. This is really really frustrating. is it possible that their particular version of avid is just too outdated? would i be able to send you one of the files as a test?

Which version are they using?
 
You can download a full funtioning software only for free and will work for 30 days. You can check your files with that before sending them off.

Small test file sent. And thanks again. I asked what version of avid they were running but got no response. I have now also sent them the whitepaper you posted a link too. thanks again. I am hoping you can open the file just fine.

sorry michael, i resent it. Deanan, I found out they are running version 2.2.7. I believe that is the problem.
 
Michael, I have downloaded and tried to install MC 4.0.4 demo as it is snow leopard compatible. When i launch after install and reboot, it freezes at the autoconfigure something everytime. any reason you can think of?

Where is the autoconfigure process? - read what it is loading...
