While recording a podcast tonight with Ted Schilowitz, I brought up the question that was made by another member, Bruno Solaja, here on REDuser...

Is it possible to control audio levels with REDMOTE ???
Can you make a headphone plug on the REDMOTE so one can hear the audio ???

Maybe the REDMOTE can be a simple audio mixer(controler)... That would be a great feature...

In our most recent podcast, Ted said:

"mmm. Those are some pretty good suggestions. Let's put it this way. Make those ideas loud and clear so that we are hearing that, while knowing that there is a real viability for that because those are really good suggestions". Until release, we have the ability to rework things and change things...the more value we get from this interchange of information, the better...

So, the question is, do you want this feature and if so, would you use it?

RED is wanting to hear from you...

The added value would be huge, and aside from development time I see no reason not to pursue it. The audio jack could also be helpful- one example would be serving as a reference for an AC who is out of earshot from the action, and has to pull focus on an audio cue. Give him some audio direct from camera, and he'll have no problem.

Audio levels and headphone jack would be the ULTIMATE one-man-band trump ace. But I would see it from a bit different angle: We already have two different Redmote designs: the Redmote and the Redmote Pro, which are both awesome. It would make sense if both of those could control the audio levels(through menus somehow, or assign buttons for it, no external changes to the device), but Red also added a third Redmote that would have dedicated level knobs, headphone jack, and maybe some more "audio" features that would allow a very large amount of control over for example the base or pro I/O module and all possible devices connected to that. Sort of like a mixer or something.

I posted this in the other REDMote thread, I would love to see not only wireless audio receiving but also transmission; maybe not both at the same time but still...

What about making the REDMote a wireless audio transmitter? A Lavalier Microphone would attach to the REDMote while it's sitting on your belt and send audio to the brain.

Obviously, I don't know if the radio data rate can accommodate this factor but it would be a cool feature!

Oh gosh this is brilliant

At this point, you could essentially give a REDMOTE to your boom op, and then he could be monitoring/mixing from a few feet away... just bril. This would be worth so much, because it would get rid of the need for wireless monitoring!

I'd say they already have assignable audio control planned.

Great idea! I imagine once the Redmote is able to transceive, display and adjust VU meter levels, we could set any of the user-assignable buttons to be plus and minus track adjustment. Maybe even the big round knob on the 'Pro - we could use buttons to select a track, and whichever is highlighted gets the adjuster wheel like a pot switch?

I love it.

Audio levels, absolutely. For example one of Zaxcom's great strength in their wireless products is the possibility of adjusting gain remotely. Great feature!
