I am trying to figure out what will be the best for shooting, and have a question. The red-drive looks great for storage, but does this require being plugged into a wall, or can it run off of the battery module?

Thanks!

The RED drive is actually powered through the lemo cable that carries the data. Only one cable required for data + power.

Quick question: Was there any info released recently about when Stage 2 Epic X cameras will be available? I saw something on twitter about "Stage 2 around NAB". Is that correct? What are the latest updates on shipping dates for Epic X?

Will the Redmote and Redmote Pro be released around the same timeframe as the bomb evf? Well any modules for that matter?

bomb evf for sale in end Januari 2010. Winter starting here and i can't wait to buy the new EVF with electric heating!! Ready for Red One. Ready to shoot in the cold than.

Question...Can the Scarlet fixed do image flip, in case someone wants to use 35mm adapters?

22. 3-axis internal motion sensor and GPS latitude / longitude data

In addition to the lat/long will the gps time also be recorded? Is this data recorded on a per frame basis? Is red willing to disclose what rate sensor part is they are using so we might be able to get some more detailed specs on it? Is the lens data also recorded (focal length, focus setting, aperture, etc)?

23. True Shutter Sync In/Out and Genlock

By 'True Shutter Sync', does this mean that when we trigger the camera externally (from ttl signal?) that the entire frame begins integration at the same time or is there any sort of rolling shutter (electronic or otherwise)? Does the Sync In trigger the start of integration or does the duration of the pulse also determine the integration time (i.e. do we have external realtime control over integration time)?

Are these various capabilities applicable to all the scarlet/epic cameras? Are these capabilities built into the brain or some other module (e.g. Pro I/O)?

In subsequent discussions, it sounds like the redmote will not be doing the frame syncing. So, that part's been answered.

Someone also mentioned that there wont be the 'wobble' problem with these cameras that DSLRs have. But I don't know if that means the rolling shutter effect is just not perceptible to the eye as much as with DSLRs or if the sensor does in fact begin and end integration at the same time (measured in single units of microseconds instead of milliseconds).

Since the price of the Scarlet S35 didn't seem to change (still 7k), is it safe to assume the price for the FF35 is expected to remain the same?

Somewhere I also remember mention that there was going to be another thread made that would have all the meat of this discussion in it so people wouldn't have to wade through 90+ pages. Does anyone have a link to that or is that comming later?

?s for the RED technical team....

Im curious when I get the Scarlet and shoot footage at 3k, what is the lowest end MAC TOWER OR I-MAC, that will able to edit the footage without problems.
Also how many minutes of 3k footage will fit on a 16gig card?
Thanks

man.. 80 pages of posts in one day. Pretty incredible. Did someone say they were going to make one thread with all the gold nuggets of info?

I feel sorry for the guys just showing up trying to catch up :)

I just posted all of the details I've found in the response thread here: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38361

Check it out and let me know if I missed anything!

Looking at the RED RAY PRO render, it is not clear where the DVD tray opens up, unless DVD as carriage medium is dropped for CF based medium only and I have missed that announcement?

Does this announcement confirm that the Red Scarlet Fixed can continuously shoot 120fps 3K 16:9 at 3072x1728, with the only limitation on footage length being how much storage you have attached?

What is the associated data rate in GB/min, or how much 120fps 3K can you fit on a 64GB Compact Flash Card?

I asume the line 21 contains the word 3D...

Thanks a bunch...

Based on previous specs for the sensor 3k is 3072x1620 1.89:1 digital cinema widescreen, not 16:9. 16:9 is 2880x1620. Both are 1.5x the H and V resolution of HD and 2k cinema projection formats. May have changed though.

As both Jim & Ted were off to Asia to lay down the law, you would expect the next ASIC spin critical to keeping to that timeline.

Quote from Jarred in the Nov. 30th announcement...

"SCHEDULE

Given that current delay in the ASIC development, we now see the following schedule.

Remember.. the goal posts move everyday. Sometimes they go backwards, sometimes they leap forward. The two things left are the ASIC and firmware. It took us 2 years to get where we are now, another couple of extra months to get where we need to go for a solid, new feature firmware for the new cameras. That is one of the main reasons for the Tattoo program, which will be extremely limited in numbers.

Tattoo- early 2010
EPIC S35 Stage 2- NAB 2010 (or shortly after)
EPIC S35 Stage 3 & 4- pre-summer 2010

Scarlet 2/3" (both models)- May-June 2010
Scarlet S35- Summer 2010

This presupposes that there are no other major surprises.....

HDMI out

HDMI out

HDMI output on the brain is great. Will the full look around and UI functions be viewable over the HDMI output for third party monitors?

That's not the default configuration for the HDMI output, but yes you can select that as a user configuration option.

ISomeone also mentioned that there wont be the 'wobble' problem with these cameras that DSLRs have. But I don't know if that means the rolling shutter effect is just not perceptible to the eye as much as with DSLRs or if the sensor does in fact begin and end integration at the same time (measured in single units of microseconds instead of milliseconds).

Just to hopefully put this to rest for those that have not been here to read about this. The "wobble problem", "jello-cam", whatever you want to call it is not an issue with RED cameras due the speed of the read/refresh rate of the sensor. Rolling shutters only create this problem when they scan down the sensor too slowly. In fact, as has been pointed out on here many times, a film camera actually has a "rolling" shutter. This action is actually one of many factors that gives a film frame it's look. It might have been a year ago by now, but Jim had stated that the speed of the rolling shutter on the MX sensor will be equivalent to that of a traditional film shutter (I will try and find the post and update this). RED One is already using a CMOS sensor (which by it's nature uses a rolling shutter) and there is no "wobble" problems now. Given that the new sensor is even more advanced and faster, this should not be of concern to anyone.

Here is a piece of one of Jim's posts on skew. You can find many more in an advanced search for read/reset rates and rolling shutters. NOTE: This is in response to a discussion regarding synced flashes or strobes to video.

I think the misinformation you may have is that all CMOS are the same. And that RED is a slow read-reset. It isn't. Quite the opposite. And getting faster with each release. Monstro will equal film in read-reset time to spinning shutter. There are now MANY features , episodics and "stuff" being shot on RED and issues you are speaking of are not slowing anyone up. My bet is that you will not experience any issues different than these productions. There are un-sync'd flash issues, just as there are with film.
