I read the following on another Recon Post before it was locked:

=========
"One more time: Panasonic, Canon, et al dominate the market for a very good reason and they will for many years to come. If you pay attention they are developing the future slowly but surely. The VDSLRs are out there, cheap and very close to perfection. RAW capture? watch for it in due time. The options are gonna be many and for our benefit."
=========

Don't get me wrong, I love my Canon EOS 5D (MkI) and the excellent service of their New Jersey service center. But my opinion is that the speed of progress and price of Pan-Can-Son-JVC high-end video products have been based solely on business decisions to manage and extract maximum profit from a vertically segmented market, rather than what technology has made possible or in the best interests of their customers.

Red has given me something that these companies would never allow a pro-sumer like me: Hope. Hope that someday soon I'll be able to produce unapologetic, no regrets professional (technical) quality video that will represent my (and my participants and audience) vision, passion, and talents. The waiting has been excruciating, but enough has been announced that convinces me the wait will be more than compensated for in quality and features.

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful that Red is busily working to make a dreamed-of part of my future a reality.

They dominate the market because they have been established for a life time but pumping out mass amounts of mediocre cameras with minimal up grades to a captive audience won't last forever.

:thumbsup:

Im going to go with, "yes it will" and "average consumers do not know any better", but I'll still pray everyday that i'm wrong.

Mediocre cameras!!!!! Maybe you are only thinking in terms of video.... but Canon/Nikon do not make mediocre cameras....

They have pushed DSLRs into amazing new places regarding still image capture (and even their baby steps into video have been impressive for a 1st attempt) they should be shown some respect too.

I like RED, they seem like a stand up company and RED One is great.... but they are still trying to make a profit, just in a different way. One man's "well, I get to communicate with the CEO" is another man's "well, I get to walk into a canon/nikon service center in most cities in the world".

I'm thankful for all the companies pushing technology.... no matter what the motivation.

Well said... I cannot stand this silly putting down of other camera systems just because they are not RED. We are so lucky to have more choices.

I've seen this chat about this versus that going on allot lately in here so this is my moneys worth. It seems that every camera I've ever used has its issues, rolling shutter, poor low light etc its seems we can't have it all (and i don't think we ever will unfortunately) but that doesn't (in my opinion) make them bad cameras. My opinion is that of course anyone in there rite mind would not be able to directly compare the canon 7d/5d to a red in anyway be it quality, function etc. But i do and have used many cameras along side each other for professional jobs and play to each of there strengths. I just finished a film where we used the red, canon 7d and the canon hf100 along side each other simply because they all produce great images and are great when used for there strengths i.e. 7d/5d low light great timelapse, hf100 - very light, great for body mounting in action sequences etc. In my mind they have all proved themselves as professional tools in the video market in various ways. I try to use them all in beautiful harmony but none for me would ever replace the red just as none can replace the others :), a workman needs various tools, you can't make a car with just a hammer no matter how hard you try. just my thoughts anyway.

Ok .. you would rather to talk to some paid by the hour employee who could care less than the CEO??

Do they give you 3k ?
Are they modular?
Can they compete at the same price?

can you upgrade without buying a new camera every 1-2 years?

No.
When Scarlet is released they will be considered nothing but mediocre.

I'm sorry but does anyone else find it humorous how many people are willing to take a bullet for a camera that hasn't been released yet?

:tongue_smilie:

lol yeah.... to be honest though I'm not going to take a bullet for scarlet even when it is released:gun:

I don't see how it can be considered taking a bullet. I find it funny that no matter what you say there is always a devils advocate who takes things way to serious in the first place.

:rolleyes5:

We need devil's advocates on here to stop the place become some kind of fanboy shrine. What you don't seem to grasp is that these kind posts actually harm RED as a company. (not the original post..... your post).

Most pros on here will have used Canon/Nikon/Sony and like these companies.... all the "RED is god" type posts actually make the forum a less respectable place to visit.

Agreed.
And I daresay that none of this should be treated as a zero sum game...not camera kit, post production platforms, lens, support, accessories, not any of it.
It's bad enough that computers have brought the ridiculous platform war mentality into post as it is, that's counterproductive enough.
But there isn't time enough in a shoot day to start this crap up where cameras are concerned and my gut tells me that if anyone stepped onto a soundstage and started the fanboi business, about RED or any other camera, they'd be physically ejected from the set so fast it would make their head spin.
It's tiresome and counterproductive.
RED makes a great camera and will most likely continue to do so and they will probably get better and better over time.
But there's no "best camera", there never has been and there never will be.
Okay, hiding behind my egg-proof barrier now.

this thanksgiving is funny.. too much lol
sorry.. but it is :smilielol5:
