  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A Request for Jim from us Scarleteers

If you'll do anything to get a RED then get off the computer and go work and save money.

If anyone thinks posting a few suggestions on a forum somehow makes them think they "contributed" to Scarlet in a manner deserving of what you all are asking, they need a serious head check...

:iagree:

You guys should just buy the 617 almost guaranteed to get something free with that purchase.

What ever happened to the concept of paying your dues? In today's world even a $7500 dollar rig is allot of money and beyond many people, not just for students. If you're a student and lack funds, get out and work in the industry, or in something that will make you money and broaden your horizons. Many of the pros on this board have had to work for years to get to the point of getting one of these cameras. Maybe by getting out there and earning your way you will receive the depth of character to do something meaningful with your camera when you get it. Instant gratification does not create the soul of an artist. As someone who started on 2 in tape and was paying 300 an hr for an editing suite. I can tell you that Jim is providing a great service to us all, lets not get all needy on him....

I do think that users of REDUSER should get some sort of discount on the cameras. Maybe 10% off at least? I'm a poor college student with limited income. I'd do anything to have a RED camera, but the fact of the matter is...right now I can't afford to drop 10,000 on a new camera. Maybe 2-3,000, but not anything more.

Look man, if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. It's that simple. I'd love to have a brand new ferrari but I can't afford one. So instead I bought a car that I can afford.

If you want a scarlet but can't afford one then keep saving until you can OR buy something that you can afford.

But making the statement: "Because I am a member of a free to join message board; I think they should make the ridiculously inexpensive camera that they are going to release even MORE ridiculously inexpensive so I can afford it." is just a stupid thing to say.

I will be getting a discount by getting a RED. So will you if you buy one. Anything you buy from them will be a discount because quality and price are better than any of the competition's is.

Well I know I'm already in line for a discount of around $100,000.

From saving me from getting an better version of the F23.

And I just wanted to make it clear to everyone that I never mentioned any sort of discount anywhere in the original post. Nobody should get a discount for these cameras except for the actual Red Users in the Epic Tattoo program, because they truly do deserve it.

All I was saying was that I would love to pay full price to Beta Test the Scarlet and there are a lot of truly talented people on the Scarlet User forums who are very capable of helping Red out to make a perfect camera.

So yeah, no discount. And don't ask for one because that'd be truly selfish.

I want medium format, 12k sensor at 1-10,000fps with a set of Prime Lenses....

Now I have 20+ posts on here.... I think the price should be around $499? Do your duty Jim.
w/ 7x 8x the number of yours me seconds the motion.

It would be cool if Scarleteers got a special T-Shirt with a purchase of the Scarlet...

Pfft...12K. I want 30K. And I also want a 24" 4K Touch Screen LCD included too.

Ameer, the T-Shirt idea is pretty cool though.

The t-shirt should include two micro-Scarlets, one on each nipple area.... they should shoot 1080p/24fps and combine into a 3D output....

Come on Jim, we will pay the delivery costs.

Well, you could turn that around and say the starting price will be $x for registered users, but it will go up to $x+5% after 3 months. It's not so unusual to give a little come-on to early adopters.

For those who just can't afford it, maybe it's worth clubbing together with a few friends and buying one to share - set up little 3 or 4 person production company, say.

WHY?

Buy a T-shirt for $20.

Why does everyone think they are entitled to free stuff?

Well...it's worth bearing in mind that a t-shirt with a logo provides advertising for the owner of said logo...so it's not as foolish an idea as it might seem. A t-shirt that costs RED $10 wholesale thrown in as a freebie is probably worth more than the equivalent cost spent on print or internet advertising, since the most powerful endorsement is that of a real person you actually know - hence the proliferation of free or dirt-cheap branded merchandise that surrounds any major film or trade show product launch.

A business rule of thumb is to spend 10% on advertising, and a free shirt for the first 100 buyers would probably pay for itself...not that Jim needs any lessons in branding or marketing.

there is no ads with RED, did you ever see something?

There will be if they want to hit 100,000+ sales per year. Which i'm sure will be their target.

Hype and word of mouth only go so far... especially with big guns like Nikon, Canon and Panasonic starting to sniff around..... and before anyone comes out with the "vDSLRs are terrible" stuff. Who knows where they will be when an s35 Scarlett is publicly launched?

How about pride of ownership, excitement about the product, or simpky free/walking advertising?

I would, however, agree that quality of workmanship and product would be enough of advertising in itself. Pride of ownership could be showcased through one's work as well as a purchase of a t-shirt.

I have been avoiding posting for a while, but I just had to reply to this:

What a T-shirt that says "Scillet", ahh, I mean "Scarlet user" ;) .

Anything past a little badge or logo might be seen as overkill.

Discount, yes, a minor loyalty discount is not unreasonable, but Jerrod was actually offering to do a service testing the scarlet, without getting paid $100 or $1000 dollars an hour, so it is worth cutting him some slack.
