  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anybody know the length of the 18mm prime (for case dimensions)? Same as 25/35mm?

Hey Bob, they haven,t been released yet...

Thanks Raul,

I know this (I have a set of RPP's). I'm having a couple of cases made and would like to know if the 18 will fit in the case.
If the lens is deeper the case will need to be deeper. Just thought I'd ask.

Depth

Hi Raul,

I can't provide the size, but I can provide some guidance.

While I got the rest of my cases from Innerspace and A&J, I ended buying the RED lens case because I've been told the 18mm is longer than the current primes.

I had a discussion with the fellow who runs Innerspace ,(a very nice guy) and he showed me the cases they are building for the primes.

I'd have preferred to go this direction, but their standard design, buy design will not provide enough depth to house the 18mm.

The RED case is deep enough for the 18mm according to red.com, and I can confirm that it does fit the 300mm which I already have.

My plan is to order the Innerspace case for the 300 when the 18mm arrives and then put the 18mm in the red case.

I've got their 18-85 case as well and I'm happy with it.

But I figure I'll use that 18 quite a bit, and wanted in in the same grouping as the other primes. If I went with the current Innerspace offerings, I'd have ended up with four cases instead of three. On balance I'd rather have fewer rather than more cases as long as the size and weight are manageable.

Hope this helps,

Steve

It has been hinted (by Jarred I believe) that the 18mm will be the same size as the 25 and 35mm. That would be good. I have the innerspace RPP case. It's great.

18mm specs should be release soon.

BTW.. we have a new compact lightweight case for the primes that should start shipping tomorrow. It is much smaller and lighter than the previous one with better foam and a few cool other features.

Awesome, looks like a case of nuclear missiles!

I'm sure that the new smaller and lighter case will be welcomed by many. I'd have chosen it if if was available at the time. That said the current case is a fine case.

I've got the first generation RED lens case and I never have understood what all the fuss was about. at 5'10", 150 lbs. and an age that starts with a five, I'm hardly roadie material :smile5:, and I've never found the case to be a major burden. The principal thing I'd change is the width (the longest dimension). It's just about an inch too wide to fit sideways on a Magliner.

Now that's not an issue.

I love the new look, and I'd bet that we can expect to see something similar in design in the near future that is constructed to hold a sophisticated modular data capture device...

Well at least I hope so.

Sexy.

How much more compact is it? And will it still hold the 300mm? I'm all for more compact, I have the Innerspace RPP case and it's great, but a little bulky at times.

I´ve read in another thread that it will be 10.5" long... hope it was mistaken, as I´ve already made two custom cases for the RPP sets with room for the 18mm... and I guess it would not fit!

Jarred - I've been meaning to ask a couple of times why the case has been designed so that the lenses are being pulled by either the PL-mount or iris-ring. It doesn't seem optimal. I would love some kind of recommendation from the manufacturer - nothing came with the lenses... not even a "how to take good care of your lenses" or any form of certificate.

Here is a bit of a size comparison:

new case: Height: 13.25". Width: 20.25". Depth: 14.75". Weight: 23.25 lb
old case: Height: 16.25". Width: 24.50". Depth: 17.00". Weight: 27.00 lb

The 300mm will fit if you remove the soft foam donuts and just use the bottom hard layer and soft top layer.. but it is pretty tight. I wouldn't recommend doing that for anything other than on-set movement.

Cool. Thanks, Jarred. I'll probably wait until the 18mm is available and re-assess my case situation then.

BTW to address some confusion here.. I can tell you that the 18mm is going to be 6.7" long with a front diameter of 110mm (like the 25mm and 35mm)

AWESOME!!!!

We have an order shipping any moment... how do we know if we will get this case? Sent an email to Travis.

thanks Jarred. That case is sick cool!

These look great. When will the pricing be released and the online cart option for it?

Also, Jarred does the lid foam open for storage and are there any AKS slots (looks like it is just the lens holes)?

Its available for order now.. should be in the store very soon. Lid doesn't open for storage, we tried a few rounds of that but it never seemed to work well and was always awkward.

No AKS slots.. this case we aimed to make as small as possible and from the AC's we canvased the majority wanted small size over exra slots.
