  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"Five Senses" series - RedOne & RPP

With all the plosives left in? Elaborate?
I don't get insulted that easily...not to worry.

That's good :-)

The plosives are like the "P" sounds etc. There needs to be some post processing. Maybe some sibilance control and compression. I noticed them right off. Was there a nice studio mic with plosive filter in place?

I just watched both commercials. Kinda like where the first one is going.

I think both spots have way too many shots and too much VO. The message is come enjoy our laid back atmosphere and the editing says "Enjoy all the wild rides at the fair!!!".

I'm seeing the first commercial with about half the dialogue presented much more smoothly/slowly and some smooth dollies/pans or possibly dissolves if you don't have some slow moving camera work.

It just feels to me like "I got all these shots so I'm going to use them all dammit".

I've had so many shots I love killed in service to the story/message it doesn't even hurt anymore. Most shooters I know don't make very good editors of their own stuff. (I rarely edit my own stuff).

BTW, I understand this stuff is all very subjective. Just sayin' it the way I see it. :-)

To be honest it sounded as though you recorded the voices for the vo with an on-camera mic in what ever room you happened to be in at the time. Room ambiance on the lead vo interfered with the read. There was an overboard amount of plosive information, you know like P pops and such that were also left in the finished read. And the vo struggled against the music. You really need a little compression to glue things together.

All the Best!

No, it was done in sound studio. What interferences?

Yes, their were P pops. I agree. It was a time cruch and they will be re-done in the next version.

VO struggled against the music? Explain?

Maybe your an audio person than a shooter like most here on this forum. Do you blame the DP for bad sound? No.

No, it wasn't the case. I shot a lot more. It was meant for a :60 sec commercial but we scaled it down to .30.

I agree most shooter don't even have very good reels to support their fine talent. I come from feature film background so I like to let the performances breathe than be cut so fast. It needs to be re-edited and refined more but it was a time crunch for the broadcast date. So, you have to do what we had to do to make the deadline.

Gary I have been doing both for some time now, I wasn't trying to blame anybody, and I'm sorry if my post came off that way.

I tell you what, to say I'm sorry, how about you send my your raw audio elements and or script, and I will do a broadcast quality re-mix for you free of charge.

No, I'm not offended at all. If you knew the circumstance I think you and others would understand the process and time crunch we all had.

Thanks. I will pm you. I appreciate your fine gesture. Very cool.
