Not sure if this is helpful, but it lets me do a quick view of the options, as my brain is aging (yes even at 34, only so much I can cram in). If there is any inaccurate info in there, please let me know. For the most part, I have just taken Jim's info and put it in a spreadsheet. There may be some opinionated stuff in some sections, but for the most part, just the facts. But do point out errors just in case people do reference it.

Thanks!

Good Breakdown Steve. :thumbup1: Please update this with the clarification from Red soon.

This should be a sticky!

Thanks David. You are as well. This forum really shines when we're helping each other out. I've learned a lot from people on this forum over the past 3 years. Some very kind folks willing to share information.

One spelling error under stage two, last paragraph Potentially

So steve, which one you gonna get? and who you gonna sell to get it

Good catch Zac. I'll fix it.

My dreams are bigger than my wallet, but you never know.

Unless I'm mistaken, there seems to be sort of a stage 3.5 where those buying the RED One after October 29 can get some discount:

Yes, a $17,500 credit but for brain only. I'm going to wait and see what Jim's clarifications are on the stages and then I'll update the breakdown accordingly. But it does appear that if you buy one right now, you can get a credit towards an Epic S35 brain and you'll need to buy all accessories at their retail price. So, in my opinion there was a reason why Jim was saying it would be a good idea to be a RED One owner prior to this announcement. Buying one now doesn't leave you out in the cold. You still get a camera you can use for a few months, make some money with it and then trade it in for some credit towards the Epic. If you are already prepared to pay full price for Epic anyway, this is still a good deal because it allows you to earn some cash while you wait.

Again, will have to wait and see what the clarifications are but this is how I understand it as of right now.

Stage 1 doesn't list the module adapter while stage 2 and 3 do. I would assume that Tattoos come with it as well.

Nice sheet, I am sure it helps many see things more clearly.

Timing, of course, is everything. I'm guessing we won't be seeing Stage 3 Epics for seven or eight months at the earliest. The second big question is the compatibility of the footage from the upgraded RED One with the new Epic-X. If you can see the difference between them (that's the One. . . that's the Epic), then I don't think Stage Two makes any sense at all for use with your own productions (rentals are, of course, a very different thing).

what makes you think there will be any noticeable difference between these two? besides framerates and multi-axis sensor alignment, there isn't much difference at all. maybe different redcode rates but i still never saw a difference between 28, 36 and 42 myself.

Their both using the same sensor, frame rates and other things linked to the mechanics of the body that can't be altered would be the only difference, so really if its based on just the image...ISO, Color etc. your pretty fine working with both on set... well at least that's my guess...

My guess is that footage from Epic and Red One cameras will be very similar and with a little care, you'll be able to use both to cover the same scene in most cases. So it looks to me that if it works for you, stage 2 is the real deal, because you get TWO cameras! With the way my buddies have been using my Red, I think this might be what I will go for.

Well actually...if what Jannard says by 'simultaneous development' of both systems is right...then that 9,000 you save could go into buying a scarlet? I mean no one here is delivering in 5k are they? let alone 4k? so surely 2k delivery is perfectly fine....

So... less then 60sec start up...2K delivery...two modular systems...

Everything is in simultaneous development...

Jim
