Generally positive news and I actually appreciate the "it'll be available when it's done" attitude. My father always told me that it's difficult to miss a deadline if you never make one.

And LOL at the meltdown over the accidental snub of the S35 Scarlet.

Any clues about how much the fixed lens scarlet is going up

No clues yet (as far as I've seen). Red says more details regarding Scarlet coming November 30th. :lurk5:

heh heh heh...

That expression now has new meaning behind it for me ;)

Thanks again!

Hey, I have to say the specs on this camera are phenomenal. You guys really did consider every production option and packed this baby with the latest technology on all fronts. Congratulations!

I do hope you'll consider a Pro I/O module option. I think you'll have many takers. The features on the Pro version address too many practical, real world issues to be ignored. Having full size connectors, digital audio and single and dual-link HD-SDI for on set monitoring or recording are all necessities in my book.

Looks like the mattebox has two stages. Do either or both rotate? Filter sizes supported? And will you have a 15mm light weight rod adaptor or swing away option, or just clip on? And will you have a full set of adapter rings, etc. for multiple lens diameters? Flags, I assume?

One last question—again, one probably on many minds... if the brain is 6 lbs. What does the Stage 3 system configuration weigh? Must be close to 10 lbs or more, right?

Keep up the awesome work.

Mark

A-Team checking in. Mark!!! Blair!!! Tonaci!!! Gibby!!!

PS does the CF side module only have one CF slot?

PPS is the EPIC Canon mount ready to go?

Instead of the A-List for the Stage 1 option:

I think that they should call them the A-team instead.
And when the camera boots up it can play the opening theme from the A-Team.
Starting with the deep voice narration:

In 2009, a reduser thread was posted by the inventor of Oakley for Epic X beta testers.
These men promptly test Epic Xs from a maximum security company in Los Angeles known as Red. Someday, the cameras will ship to the rest of us, but until then, if Red has a problem, if you want to try EpicX out early, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...
The A-Team.

(start theme music)
bom bum bum...

The RED Tattoo looks like an awesome option. My guess is that I'll be to far back, but if not (and I'm hoping I won't be) I'd be happy to run that camera in to the ground with testing/shooting.

My serial # is probably too high also, but I agree wholeheartedly. What a privilege it would be to participate in the development process with the RED team!!!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Hey I dont think I understand your question... We are making the PRO-I/O module.. there is no consideration not to make it. :)

That's cool that you're putting internal microphones on the Scarlet if I read that correctly. Will the Epic-X bodies have something similar? Often for stock footage work, I don't bring a microphone with me all the time, it would be good to have a scratch mic for those occasions so I could voice in data, etc.

The mic is a low profile scratch microphone that snaps into the front microphone ports on both Scarlet and Epic.. it's not built in per say but it blends in pretty well. We like to keep things modular to give people options.

Great news. I always loved playing with Legos.

I may be way out of line, and if I am, I'm sorry.

I know I can't speak for Jim, since I'm not Jim and don't work for RED.

But it seems clear to me that there's something a little wrong with these suggestions that it might cost $8k+ to get a 2/3 Scarlet.

Jim said prices for the 2/3 Scarlet would be a bit higher. I was under the impression a complete Scarlet system would originally run about $4,000-$4,500. The base brain was $3,000-odd, so that would give you $1-1.5k for accessories.

There's nothing particularly shocking about the prices for accessories announced already compared to the cost of similar RED ONE equipment. However, I always had the impression that the 2/3 Scarlet was coming with less capable but also less costly options. For instance, 2/3 Scarlet would come with a lighter-capacity battery pack instead of the heftier ones carried by the fancier models. 2/3 Scarlet would come with a tiny LCD, like a DSLR. 2/3 Scarlet would probably have a more basic control system than the fancy but pricey REDMote.

My best guess would be that we're talking about an increase from around $4,500 to around $5,500. That would be a reasonable increase. I think Jim would consider an increase from $4,500 to $8,000 to be a very big deal for most people. Jim may be exceedingly wealthy today, but I think he still understands the value of a dollar to people who don't have many.

He's saying the increase won't be huge. I believe him.

The rest will have to wait until 30 November ...

David

There are people that love to speculate in a void. Whoever said that Scarlet 2/3" was going to cost $8000 must just love to hear themselves talk... no offense intended.
