Hi,

When backing up RED material on site from CF cards I want to be 100% positive that all material has been copied before I erase the CF card and shoot on it again. I could of course just copy the material through Finder on my Mac but has anybody a suggestion when it comes to programs managing this process making sure everything was copied correctly. I've heard something about a program called R3D Data manager http://www.r3ddata.com/mac/ Is there anybody here that has experience with this or any other such program?

Cheers,
Philip

Just buy it

Just buy it

Yes,

It's the standard, inexpensive, works, responsive developer who is also a Red owner.

Shotput Pro and BruPE are other options depending upon your needs, but for a Red specific solution to disk, you're not going to do better than R3d data manager.

r3d data manager is a must for any professional application.

Very essential software.

First, you are not 'backing up' your material as your post title implies, you're simply offloading it to another disk. Backing up is generally considered to be putting it on a more robust medium such as tape or CD / DVD roms.

If you don't know a lot about computers, r3d data manager is a steal at $80.

I use a combination of Finder, bash scripts, and Bru PE to offload, organize, process, and backup data. Finder has never failed me, but if you are really wanting to test it you can read up on cmp (compare) by opening a terminal window and typing 'man cmp'. Both Finder and r3d data manager use the OS's underlying commands to do the work, the big difference that Finder just drives cp while r3d data manager will do the cmp for you.
