Hannover Hands On comparisons of RED F35 & D21

It's going to get interesting towards the end of next week when I shoot RED and film comparisons :-)

I'm part of a workshop team in Bangkok who will be running classes at Technicolor in Bangkok.

The idea is to show people how to get the most out of RED cameras and to also show them what the differences are with the medium that they're used to.

I'm sure that I'll be able to get permission to upload the tests to the web again :-)

wow Sanjin - Perhaps it's your babel fish translator but I think you should learn some manners. Your posts sound incredibly arrogant and rude to me. Politeness and professionalism cost nothing and you seem to have neither of these qualities. Maybe be a little more considerate in your posts to other people.

And while we're at it: putting words into quotes suggests that you don't really mean it. I.e. when you call someone a professional, you say that they know their trade. But if you call someone a "professional" you really say that they aren't.

And I am not sure why Sanjin posted that picture of Geoff holding a F35 and called it his "newest girlfriend". Calling a camera a DPs girl-friend is as best immature. And the picture itself to me it only shows that Geoff is a DP that works with different camera systems (as any DP should that can make camera decisions), that Sanjin knows how to google, and that Geoff has lost quite some weight since I've last met him. Only one of which is news, and of no relevance to this thread.

What are you talking about?

Guys, it looks to me very transparent what you would like to achieve with your writings?

Btw, I do not need a kind of confrontation here at all because I do have something else to do.

Also I would like to recommend to all of you just to read all the posts once more carefully

and try to make make a proper analysis and not a sort of mind grouping behavior and some of a bad insinuations.

With hope that here we are to discuss about RED camera project and not (like always) to make a sort of personal promotions.

There are many other better places to do this thing then it is online forum.

Cheers :cheers2:

What we are seeing here is two worlds coming into collision. I don't think Sanjin is questioning Geoff Boyle's 'professionalism', he's lampooning the whole notion of 'professionalism'. Red, by dint of its approach to selling cameras, is forcing people who are quite happy to occupy a place in the dominant entertainment industry to come into contact with the cinematic demimondaine (I never, by the way, use 'demimonde' as a pejorative). Sanjin's obviously of the latter, & I rather enjoy his thumbing his nose at the pros. He's this forum's resident holy clown, a sophomoric Socrates.

When the poetically-named Scarlet emerges from its womb expect a great deal more friction between insiders & outsiders. I anticipate it with relish.

(Of course this thread has brought out of the woodwork a number of irritable people who have nothing but crass stupidities to offer--such nonentities ought to be easily ignored.)

Ruby,

thanks for your kind support here.

You exactly recognized, explained and described a kind of costume and a roll :biggrinjester: I'm getting in here from time to time try to move the thing in a right direction.

Nice.

Also I like this Panavision Film vs. Digital comparison test:

I am not questioning Sanjins opinions or motives but his politeness. There is nothing useful or revolutionary in being rude and disrespectful to people.

I welcome diversity of opinion. I fight ignorance (which I am using as a pejorative). Maybe consider other peoples feelings a little.

James,

I had respect for Geoff very much, "announced" his test a moth ago here, also ordered his book "The Little RED Book" and pointed out at his test methodology.

And because of my different opinion than his I "suddenly" have got kicked underneath from him and just responded to that...

It's one of main Fight Club rules...

Sanjin,

I never meant to make this personal, I always had the impression that the feelings some of your posts aroused was a misunderstanding - and I just wanted to point out how some of your posts might be read as personal attacks. Part of the dangers of online communication.

I very much like Ruby's point of view.

What!

You live on another planet mate.

YOU started the unpleasantness and I responded in a much restrained way compared to my normal responses.

I am respecting the fact that I'm visiting someone else's home and not responding as I would on my own turf.

I've come across response like yours far too many times, you love to try and give it but fold the second someone hits back and start crying for help.

What a wimp!

Your snide digs and innuendoes are pathetic.

I'm totally transparent, my work and my opinions are out there for anyone to find.

Who are you? what do you base your comments on? where is your work for us to see? where is your body of work? what have you given back to this business?

Geoff,

you sound pretty funny and please leave me alone now...

Also I just unsubscribed my email address from the 'cml-pro' mailing list.

Have a nice day...

I think you could apologise Sanjin. It would be the proper thing to do.

James,

I would apologize if other side also find its own part of responsibility in this case.

Geoff,

There you go again, turning it all around again.

YOU were the one who kept having a go at me.

Now I respond YOU try to turn it around and make it my issue.

No way mate, YOU started this.

Oh and you've left CML....so? who loses there?

YOU started this.

I disagreed with your "3 cam test methodology" and you didn't like it, I talked and presented the facts, you didn't like it,

then also you first made joke about me, I responded with my joke , then again (of course) you didn't like it, etc...

Btw, I can understand that somebody has a right to disagree with my opinion and if all that were said or written with a sort of respect then is OK.

At the end you could take me as a Mr. Nobody as you would like it and that could much help to finish now this quarreling that we do not need at all.

Also I'm asking myself why you wasting your time here to talk with Mr. Nobody?

:reddevil:

okay this is it ! im never gonna hang out at reduser no more because
of people like sunjin !
this is really anoying me big time !
im really sorry that mr boyle has to deal with that !

Real name policy Herr "Kreisky" would help us to understand little bit more about your real intention here :biggrinjester:

You never presented any facts.

You presented ill informed bias.

You admit that you know F'all about the D21 and the F35 yet suddenly you're an expert.

Why am I wasting my time?

Because F'wits like you are contributing to the lowering of expectations/values that the camera department can contribute.

This all seems a bit un-equal...

We have two groups of people with diferent point of views.
One (Geoff) has done a real test, albeit flawed to some here, but a real test nonetheless.

I would kindly request, like in many other things in life, instead of people complaining about his test and the way he did it, go out and do your own tests. Only that way (at least to me) one would be on level ground to complain. In no way do I mean that if you have never done a test, you don't understand the subject, BUT, once you do your own tests maybe you can start to understand all the little nuances and sacrifices/compromises/adjustements that have to be accepted to even prepare a test like this.

Come on, if we expected perfect tests from everything, then we would expect perfect footage all the time as well, and we know this aint real for 95% of situations.

Geoff took a couple cameras, and did what a photographer does. SHOOT.

I for one am very grateful for the tests, if only because there was someone who instead of talk actually went out and tested.

This happens all the time in the car racing world, cars get measured up by specs and blah blah blah, and in theory results should be X but hey! , they turn out to be Y.

Just my humble $0.02 (or 0.013527 Euros to the european folks (as the Euro goes today ;-) )
