  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

is sony stepping up? big announcement on the 20th I guess

Hrm- intriguing. Certainly would not mind seeing another FF35 sensor camera with interchangeable lenses to choose from. Question is, which lens mount?

It seems like Sony is in the worst position of probably any major camera manufacturer to compete with Red. Sony has to protect its own S35mm $200K F35.

Can they produce an S35 1080p or 4K RAW camera for $40K that will directly compete with their $200K model? Really, almost any dream specs you can think of will undermine the F35. It seems to me like they have painted themselves into a corner already.

maybe its based on sony's 24.6 MP exmor sensor they use in their alpha DSLR. They could use the same Alpha (Minolta) lens mount and maybe they introduce new lenses for this mount.... I think zeiss makes lenses for the alpha mount.

I doubt it will have a RAW video format or crazy high speed frame rates but they may get the audio and form factor right... More a reaction to canon then Red... i guess

I really don't know why all of you seem to think this has anything to do with a digital cinema product, when Sony's bread and butter - especially for the XDCam line - is broadcast, ENG, EFP, and documentary use. Which, BTW, is much, much larger than any potential digital cinema market. Nowhere in the preliminary ads does it say anything about "big" referring to the size of the sensor(s). I think it's much more likely that it would refer to the size of the camera body, since one of the weaknesses of the EX3 design is that its small size doesn't lend itself well to hand held or shoulder mounted work. Not to mention the fact that Sony doesn't currently have a solid state based XDCam entry in that space.

Most, my statement was a general one. I made no mention of this "announcement." Obviously, I am very skeptical about this being a good cinema camera, or a cinema camera at all, for the reasons I stated.

Maybe EX-3 will come in pink now...

As long as it is not modular, RAW, at least 3k and under 4500$ I don't care...

Sorry, couldn't help myself...

My guess is it'll be a shoulder mounted EX3 with a 2/3 sensor and it will retail circa £8.5K

I would love to see them offer record to inexpensive flash card option but as this would kill their SxS sales it is unlikely to happen :-)

I see a gap between their exisiting EX3 and the PDW700/800 cams.

I said in another thread before : Sony will come to Paris (France) for the SIEL-SATIS with two new XDCAM products. The date of your annonce is 20 October and this exhibit (broadcast, film, audio) is from 20 to 22 October.... So i'm righ ! But i don't know about real kind of products....
